I have a 6 month old American Bulldog and a 2 year old Cairn Terrior (about a 50 lb difference...lol) They get along great and are lost without each other. However...when I let them outside to piddle...the AB does her business quickly while the CT takes her time. The problem is that once the AB is finished she grabs the CT's collar in her mouth and pulls her to the front door before she's had a chance to piddle. I've tried taking them out separately, but the CT stands at the door waiting and won't do her business. How do I train the AB to leave the CT alone long enough for her to finish??

I have tried distracting the AB....but the CT wants to play too....i've spent as long as 45 minutes in the yard (in the rain of course...lol) just waiting. The AB just seems to think that it's time for both of them to come inside....lol

that's cute. Obviously the AB is the Alpha here. Make sure that the AB knows you are the leader or Alpha. When the AB does this firmly tell him/her "NO" and distract the AB long enough to allow the Cairn to do their business. You may also want to develop command words for the cairn to pee and poop. My dog's is pee-pee and poop. I know it sounds strange but it does work. As your Cairn is peeing-say "good pee-pee "(or whatever word you chose) over and over as they are urinating, do the same when they are pooping only chose a separate command word. The word should be something you don't use in everyday conversation. Eventually your Cairn will do their business on command-quickly.

Every morning i would take the AB out on a leash and let the CT do her business. As soon as the CT goes take the AB off the leash and let them play.
The AB has claimed the CT. Maybe if she/he watches the CT doing its business while being restricted she/he will get the idea the CT just takes longer then she/he does.
With one on a leash it may show the other it is not play time.
Good luck I'm glad they love eachother but love should'nt be a control issue lol.

Some dogs take longer than others. You need to assert alpha. My lab takes twice as long as my 2 boxers. try taking your AB out on a leash. When he tries to play with the other one just give a quick tug on the leash and use no or eh, just be assertive and consistant. Let them go out when they don't have to go so they can get play time.

Once the AT has done its business then play with it, distract it just until the CT can do her bit too
Dont play to good tho other wise the CT will want to play and forget to relieve herself anyway

Go outside with the dogs and keep the AB tethered to you with a leash. Then she can't get to the ct because you are holding her leash.

Give her a treat while the other one is doing the thing. If that doesn't work beat her.
