a hundred years ago america existed and was alive an well. Did you realize that 10 years ago citizens couldn't be denied habeus corpus at behest of the president? Or that unreasonable searches and seazures occured MUCH less often 15 years ago? Or that SWAT teams didn't used to be used to serve warrents for non-violent crimes and frequently kill people, often those who weren't involved in said crime?...
PS:America isn't the best ranking county in anyone's freedom ratings these days, check the freedom house.

Very true - but by the same token, people today are often vilified for saying things one could freely say 100 or more years ago...
As for child molesting - it is true that certain clerics in Islam believe that nine year old girls are ready for marriage, with first intercourse recommended after the girls menses (first period)...
Iran and some others went on a PR campaign attempting to eliminate the child molesting rep... was some five or ten years ago...
