You can have some really weird, vivid dreams with it. I take a normal dose nightly as a sleep aid. I gave some to a coworker who was having trouble sleeping, and she took one pill. She said she woke up throughout the night with cats crawling on her (she had no pets and lived alone).

Melatonin is used to put people to sleep (and also help with jet lag). Are you saying you want to force yourself to stay awake after taking melatonin? I never heard of that. I take some pretty hard core sleeping pills prescribed by my shrink. Sometimes they don't put me to sleep. I just lie in bed very restless, but never hallucinate. Sometimes, I get so restless I get out of bed and mess around on the computer. Well, that's my story. You might have a different experience, but I never heard of any connection between melatonin, staying awake, and hallucinating. Be well.

I know that the melatonin makes people live longer. It's the substance in our body that makes us feel sick and dizzy, causes insomnia while we're flying in an airplane. This effect can be cured by pills which contain some substance that negates melatonin but it's not necessary cause one day spent dizzy means longer life. Melatonin is a substance which controls our biorhythm and when flying into different time zones it confuses our body and the body doesn't know when to sleep, becomes depressed and sick. But this substance called melatonin which regulates our sense of time and biorhythm, when it's present in the body revives cells and can make life time last longer. IT IS PROVEN.

Yes.
""There are reports of some people having depression, becoming much worse after taking melatonin. There are reports of people developing hallucinations, in particular hallucinatory dreams after taking melatonin," says Dr. Dan Oren, also from the mental health institute.

I imagine if a concentrated solution were injected directly into the brain, it might. I suspect that doing so would probably kill you first, though.
I'd be very interested to know what inspired this particular question.

mmm, not sure about hallucinations? melatonin has is a skin pigment..I don't see a connection of hallucination with skin pigment. Maybe you inhaled or took some meds. that could blocked some neurotransmitters in your brain cells and causing the synapse to delay the transfer.
