In the old days, doughnut shops were one of the only locations open 24 hours a day. Even cops need breaks. They could eat and get a cup of joe. Where else were they supposed to grab a snack? This is before 24 hour McDonalds and Taco Bell.

Well a long time ago when most business and restaurants were not opened 24 hours and cops were working the mid-night shift, it seem that all that was opened was doughnut shops. So of course if you were hungry and needed coffee this was the place to go. So that's how it started.

not that they ONLY eat doughnuts but that they LOVE to eat doughnuts. Many cops do get thier coffe and doughnuts, usually something like a cruller or less sweet ones. Especially in small towns and on the night shift, nothing to do but sit in the car and have coffee and doughnuts.

Also a way to make fun of them and ridicule about seemingly silly stuff just cause they're the enemy.

No, they say cops like to eat donuts.

Donut shops tend to stay open all night and it was a place a police officer could stop to get a cup of coffee and a snack. So people just started playing with the idea that if you needed a cop, go to a donut shop.

It's one of those trite insults made my unimaginative people. It's like "blonds are dumb".
After 40 years in law enforcement I can count on one hand the number of times I ate a donut on duty. I used to keep a bag of jerky in the car. Check out the new cops of today. Most of them are such health nuts they won't even touch a donut.

Yeah. Any time they turn their sirens on and speed previous you, they're yearning extra donuts. till they pull you over, in which case they're attempting to fulfill their month-to-month quota.
