Does anyone know how to relieve migraine headaches? I used to take tylenol but after many years of taking this, I think it has taken a toll on my liver. I get pains right in my liver area.I dont know what to do anymore and the pain from the migraine headaches are so intense that I think only a migraine sufferer would understand how this feels. Any suggestions?

I almost forgot to ask, does anyone know if its true that you can suffer a stroke as a result from a migraine. I was given this info from a co worker.

You need to see a neurologist and get some migraine medication. They can give you something to take just for migraines and if you get them often they can start you on some preventative medicine. If you think you liver might be damaged from Tylenol you need to get this checked out too

I get cluster migraines. I start to get them by losing vision, my left eye goes blind and the pain is excruciating. I have particular medication to take that knocks me out. I'm generally back on my feet in 6-8 hours, but if I don't take anything I will be screaming for 12 hours. I take Naramig in combination with Codeine Forte. I find that an ice pack will sometimes help, but definitely have to be lying down in a dark room. I'll get a series of these over a period of six weeks, then won't get them for a few months. You should really see your GP about getting some stronger medication, because Tylenol never cuts it with me..

I take 4 motrin, turn off all the lights in a cool quiet room, lay down & sleep until the pain has subsided. Usually my whole day is shot when I get a migraine. I HAVE to lie down, no medication can get rid of it alone.
You should definitely see a doctor if you get severe enough migraines & often enough that you've taken so much over the counter meds that you now have another health problem.

I suffer from migraines and get at least one every month.

I've taken prescription stuff, which works pretty well. Midrin was the type I got. There's a LOT of new meds on the market for this.

Over the counter Excedrin Migraine works really well for me.

I lay down in a cool, dark, quiet room and try to rest. I have this peppermint lotion and rub a bit on my forehead, temples, and the back of my neck, and that's really soothing. But I usually need meds on top of this to make it go away.

there are several anti-migraine prescription medications available that you could see your dr. about. and while you're there you could get your liver checked out if you really think its from taking too much tylenol.

in the meantime, try taking advil for your pain. talk to your pharmacist to make sure it's okay for you to take first. make sure you dont go over the maximum of 1200mg/day (6 of the regular strength tablets).

Hi. I know what you're going through myown experiences. Cause I have them so severe that I just crawl on the floor and pass out. My doctor recommended 100 mg of imitrex. It really helped me. You take one pill on an onset of headaches. It helps immediatley.
Ask your doc for a free example . Try it and see. My liver has not been affected b this medicament. It is recommended to drink plenty of water whilst taken any medication. Good luck. Otherwise, nothing then sleeping it off, or ice packs on your forehead. Or what also I have done Eygalyptus creme on my forehead. It helps too.

you may want to see your doctor and try to get some medications like imitrex. My fiance's mom has bad headaches and she was prescribed this and is really doing well. The doctor also told her to put her forehead under ice cold water. Good Luck!

I am also a migraine sufferer and been taking medication such as tylenol, avamigran and lately nomigrain tablets. I used to get it more often before but from 2 yrs. ago, I tried to take track on what triggers my migraine. Now, it is less or I never suffer at all. When my attack comes I am really helpless and very weak, not to mention that I have to throw-up all what's in my tummy; which is very difficult. So I said to myself what causes me migraine? You see, there are many factors in having migraine. I know I'll have it if I am all stressed up, skip my meals, or had a heavy complex meals, anxiety, and mostly stress. So I monitor my daily intake of foods; like I shouldn't have more caffeine in a day. A cup of coffee will do, or a cup of tea with milk, or a softdrinks. If I take more of these plus a complex meal, I will definitely have migraine. Cheese, Chocolates, cakes, heavy sauces and spices, oranges, junk foods, I have to take them lightly. Type of some perfumes, especially heavy ones, also triggers my migraine. Weather, if its too hot or too cold and I didn't dress up properly for this, can also give me migraine. Stressed at work if I am not moderately doing it, can also led me to migraine. The only solution to hold me in control with my migraine is to look after myself. Sometimes food which aren't fresh also triggers my migraine, so I make it a point to eat lightly outside if it can't be avoided and I always prepare my food. Why don't you find out what triggers yours and maybe you can also help yourself to avoid it or to lessen your attacks. Goodluck!
