A very good question. Buddhists believe the soul or 'being' is comprised of 9 Consciousnesses, the 6th Consciousness being where all the sensory input from 1 through 5 integrate to form thoughts and impressions. Perhaps, then, the 6th Consciousness is where the imagination begins. As far as your question about whether they are one and the same, I don't believe they are, yet they are inextricably linked. The imagination can either benefit or bankrupt the the soul depending on the owner's understanding of how to use the imagination without being deceived by it in turn. Likewise, a person's understanding of this concept might rely heavily on their imagination. Whether the person has the good fortune to have complete control over a vast and brilliant imagination would certainly rely on what accumulations are to be found in the the 8th Consciousness (Karmic Storehouse) of that person. Oh, how the imagination does assist the seeking spirit. Good Karmic Storehouse=Good Questions!

I used to think so, but then I picked up the habit of praying to God, and I found that the soul goes just a little bit farther, as far as I can tell. The imagination helps you comprehend your soul, and the soul exerts an influence on your imagination . . . What I found, however, was that my imagination really only worked with ideas that I could more or less understand. My soul, on the other hand, often leapt out into more uncharted territories, communicating with God about concepts that I didn't really "get". I never totally understood what would happen at these times, but I would get incredibly emotional, moreso than ever before; as the apostle Paul put it, "drunk" with the Holy Spirit; and I could tell something very important was happening. Often, I'd discover that I had had infections or diseases clear up during this process, or that other positive outcomes followed shortly thereafter. Also, it wasn't something I'd really initiate, either; I'd just start with the standard "God bless grandma" prayers and the Holy Spirit would just kind of knock me over and take control of my soul.
The imagination, on the other hand, doesn't really jump ahead of me like that. I usually know why I'm using my imagination and what specific things I'm thinking about; there's nothing too nebulous going on in my imagination, and my imagination deals with the kinds of things I can express in words.

No no no!

The imagination is part of the mind....it's a thought process that can be used for whatever creative part of the human aspect the person uses it for. (drawing, painting, daydreaming, fantasizing...etc)

The soul is part of the divine energy or spiritual energy of the universe and moves within that realm.

The mind cannot control the soul's intent.
The mind can control the imagination's intent.

*The soul's intent would be an individual thing....I could not state what the course of each person's life should or will be. (I could assume that the intention is for the good of the human race and the planet we live on....but the details are unique to each individual).

They tend to be two very different concepts, the soul is the concept of the self, something that is you, in the here and now, though imaterial. It is usually described as a constant kernel of a changing self. The imagination on the other hand is ever-changing, and never based in current reality as it has been demonstrated

Very far from the truth. The soul is temple of the Holy Spirit, while the imagination is just like thoughts, that come and go where ever it wants.

Cause and effect, we have imagination because we have souls. One springs from the other, but they are not one in the same.
