Judeo-Christian tradition has taught for thousands of years:
1. Single people should be celibate.
2. Married people should be faithful to each other (adultery is wrong).
3. Married couples should welcome God's gift of children and, therefore, artificial birth control was against the will of God.

If the world is going to ignore teachings about chastity (1 & 2), then why is the world so upset about teaching artificial birth control (3)?

People who are already ignoring the more important teachings about chastity (1 and 2) should have no problem ignoring the less important teaching of artificial birth control (3).

Even if a person infected with AIDS was to use a condom to help protect his or her spouse, condoms are not 100% effective (read the box) and the spouse may be infected and die anyway. A person who truly loves their spouse would not endanger them in this way.

In regards to sex outside of marriage, the Church makes it a practice not to tell people how to sin.

With love in Christ.

The Vatican promotes abstinence as the only 100% sure way avoiding the transmission of aids.

Condoms, especially the cheap ones distributed in 3rd world countries, fail at a rate of almost 50%.

Do the math, and you'll see who's telling the truth.

The Vatican's strategy has proven to significantly reduce the spread of aids in Uganda, where it has been used for some time.

Abstinence. What a concept!

Women "have" to sleep with men in order to feed their children?

Who are these men? Why do they have all the food? And, why are they only giving it to women who are willing to have sex with them?

Lastly, are you serious? Somehow, I don't think you've though things through very well.

The use of condoms DOES NOT guarantee 100% results. A person could still contract disease through a condom - and sex can still result in a pregnancy.

Abstinence is the answer. Abstaining from sex DOES guarantee 100% results as far as not spreading disease and not getting pregnant.

Allowing the use of condoms increases sexual activity and also increases the rate of population growth. This means you will have a much larger and far sicker population than you would have if abstainence was in practice.

Think about it. If your health/life depended on your ability to abstain from sex, you would abstain.

Promoting abstainence is a far more realistic option than you think it is - and the results are guaranteed.

Actually, this is ending. Though not distributing them, Jesuits in South Africa are not preventing those distributing condoms, and Pope Benedict--and keep in mind, even CONSIDERING this is an earthshaking move--is considering altering doctrine to permit condom use because of this very issue.

That said, I don't think it was ever said by anyone that using condoms makes you more likely to get AIDS.

Because what happens when the condom breaks? AIDS gets spread to tons more people. Free sex with people is a major gateway to spread AIDS. The only way is ABSTINANCE untill marriage. Artificial contraception has always been a sin in the Church all the way back to the early fathers and even in the Bible where people would use chemicals to stop birth.

What makes me angry is the whole "only have sex with your husband and you'll be fine" attitude. Do they not realize how many women get AIDS from their husbands? Husbands aren't always faithful and they don't always stay clean. If a woman gets AIDS, it doesn't mean she's some kind of slut. It could just mean she has a cheating husband.

Thank you. Firstly, this was a REFLECTION by ONE Cardinal. In no way should this be taken as the Catholic Church either speaking or teaching. Secondly, the information presented was derived from sources such as Harvard School of Public Health, UNAIDS, the Kaiser Family Foundation, the WHO, the CDC, and the International Planned Parenthood Federation.

Because they are stupid, those fancy buildings at the Vatican are not filled with books on intelligent subjects., just records of how many people they have tortured over the years and new ways to pester Jews.

Yes, they are. The Catholic Church is literally costing lives through its theology. Catholics don't like to admit it, but for each X number of dollars you give to the Catholic Church, someone dies.
