do a search for "bittorrent client" and you will find many options.
The original is simply called "bittorrent" and can be found at bittorrent.com
The one I prefer (it is very small and efficient) is called (mu)torrent and can be found at utorrent.com
The torrent file tells the client what file(s) to download.
Make sure you are using BitTorrent for legal purposes like downloading Linux distros and not for pirating music or software
(stern look)

If there is a directory named CRACK in a torrent file, this means that the file (software or games) you have downloaded is pirated. Just stay away from these files, as they may harm ur PC as they contains many malicious programs/codes, or you can be the victim of software counterfeiting. Do reply if you need any help regarding this.

google "bit tornado"
download and install
then open the torrent file and let it do its thing, its all automatic.
just tell it where to save the files in the dialog box.
the next question you will probably ask will be how to open the downloaded files as they are normally compressed.
the most common is .rar files. for these just download "winrar" and install.
if you are downloading .iso (or other image files) my advice is to use alcohol 120%. again use the torrent site to download it.

A .torrent file can be opened with a program such as uTorrent (my personal favorite - you can download it here: http://www.utorrent.com/download.php). It is basically a program which allows you to download a file from other people (peer to peer connection).
You can read all about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BitTorrent#Torrents

utorrent works better than bittorrent. Install it, than when you select a torrent to download it will prompt you to open it with utorrent and you will start receiving parts of the file.

I recommend uTorrent.
files with the .torrent extension will download a specific file (wherever you got that file from should say what it is) from multiple users that already have that file and put it in your computer.

you should use bittorrent.
I wouldn't recommend it though, because bit torrent is a peer to peer file sharing program. if you don't know, thats like taking a machine gun to a piece of paper (the paper being your firewall), by the time your done you don't have much, if any, paper left.
