I'm looking to lose 50 pounds by the end of May. I've tried a few diets and exercising in the past and none of them seem to stick. I would say I exercise for about 4 hours each week and that probably isn't enough, but I'm a student and really don't have a lot of time, nor motivation to go to the gym much more often than I already do. I've been seriously considering The South Beach Diet because I know other people that have done the Atkins and Weight Watchers and neither have seemed to keep the weight off.

Thank you!

im with you man, im lookin to lose some weight,- i wouldnt do any diets cause once you stop and you eat normal the weight comes back on. just cut the intake that you take in.... smaller meals. eat fruit a couple times a day to keep your stomach workin, and dont drink soda, - if you stop drinkin soda that'll make you drop some weight. also, if youre workin out, thats gonna put some muscle on, so i wouldnt lift weights, id focus more on cardio, you dont have to run, just get a jog goin and you should be fine. good luck

You're not going to lose that much weight by May. You can lose about 2 pounds of fat a week tops safely. The only way you're going to accomplish that is through a dedicated program of diet and exercise. At least 5 days a week of aerobics or strength training.

Why don't you figure on losing the whole 50 in 8 months or by next year. That way you won't get frustrated and try to quit when it all doesn't happen at once. Aerobics will help jump start your metabolism. Strength training will build muscle which will really get your metabolism going. If you're serious about this, excuses like not having the time or motivation aren't going to cut it. Make the time.

Find something that will work for you that isn't a fad diet. You know eating healthy and exercise are the two main ingredients. What physical activity do you enjoy? Do it often. If none, walk to school, park far away, while studying stand up and do an exercise. Plan what you're going to eat ahead of time and make it with your own hands. Stick to foods that don't have sugar in it. My friend lost 20 lbs just by cutting out alcohol and sugar. Read health magazines or locate your form of motivation.

The best way to lose 50 pounds is with your brain. I don't care what you eat or what exercise you don't do. Can you picture a brain that says "I'm not hungry?" Brains do. What it is, is that whatever you're doing in your life right now, is not helping you to lose 50 pounds. What if you could take a pill and not be hungry and at the same time be really interested in what you're doing? I would suggest that is one avenue to explore with a doctor. Just a thought.

Long term:
Best way to loose weight. Change how you percive, view, food and STICK to a healthy diet. That is the only way to truely loose weight and keep it off. Don't eat to feel better etc.

Short term:
If you want a quick fix... cut out ALL carbs, that means bread, soda, pasta, fuits for atleast 2 months, and increase your protein intake eat your body weight in protein (in grams man!). Also drink plenty of water and avoid eating anything 3-4 hours before bed. Drink coffee (black) this will increase your metoblic rate and burn more fat.

My brother and sister both were overweight and they lost A TON of weight pretty fast. All they did was run 40 min on a treadmill at speed 5.5. They didnt start out for that long though, they slowly worked their way into it. started at 10 the first day, 11 the next day, 12 the next, and so on... They also watched VERY closely to what they ate and how much of it they ate. Believe me eating something delicious for a few minutes is not as good as feeling thin. So when you think about eating something unhealthy think about the pain of feeling overweight. And running is they best way to loose weight, i think. I sure hope this helps, it sure did for my brother and sister. :D

You could try every magical diet they try and sell you, but the real answer is the same as it always has been: Diet & exercise. It all depends on how badly you want to lose the 50 pounds. Best of luck!

I've lost 36 pounds in one year. I exercised (walking only). I ate healthy. I also used a protein suppliment with liquid vitamins three days a week. My overall advice. Set a realistic goal and take the necessary actions to reach the goal. If you don't reach the goal, find out what stopped you from acheiving it. Was there any other action you could have taken to reach your goal?

Cut out all fried foods & soda. Try to drink water or milk with your meals instead of sugary drinks. Eat smaller meals by simply filling your plate and not getting seconds. eat more fruit & veggies and you can eat almost an unlimited amount of veggies. make sure you get your protein but switch from red meat to chicken, turkey & fish. Cut back on any desserts you eat and if you crave it eat just a few tablespoons to satisfy the taste buds.
