Exhortation is the act of persuading someone who is not currently in agreement with you about the necessary action to be taken. Encouragement is the act of emotionally supporting someone you already agree with.

BTW, I always liked you, "encourager".

an exhortation is a reminder of a law or a standard with no compromise.it is basically an order or a standard. encouragement implies help, and support to meet the requirements of an exhortation

Exhortation is more like commanding someone. Encouragement is a gentler way of persuading someone.

Encouragement says, "Way to go, you're doing a great job!"

Exhortation says, "Suck in that gut, come on, I know you can do better!"

Both versions involve pom poms or a coach whistle.
