Smart dog!
Most dogs dig in the middle to make there bed getting no where fast.
Your dog has figured out the carpet moves a little when he digs by the wall.(where the tack strip is giving just a touch)

All he wants to do is make his bed. He just doesn't like where you place his carpet for his bed.

So next time you see him digging state no to him and if he doesn't listen shake a can of pennies. (it is loader and a new sound)
If this still does not work and he is digging place him in the kennel for a hour each time he does it and he will learn to stop.

Make sure if he stops digging right away to give him praise but make sure he has walked away from that area of the carpet.

Good luck.

Most puppies dig on the carpet for 2 explanations: a million) they're bored, or two) they wish to dig external (to bury a bone or the like) however they're within at all times so that they dig on the carpet. What form of puppy is it? A lab? they're DIGGERS! A Border Collie? They dig additionally and have a tendency to chunk due to the fact thats how they herd sheep. If it is a border collie, simply allow it realize who's boss by means of reprimanding it while it bites and take the puppy out plenty.

He does it because he's hyper. All of my dog's do it or went through that stage. I never discovered why they dig at the carpet, besides thinking they're going to rearrange the carpet to suit them better as a bed. You can try a spray that can be bought at Walmart or any pet store. It's called off spray or stay away spray. It smells a little funny but they can'y stand it. It works 100%! I think it's bitter apple or something like that. Try it.

Any number of reasons. Most likely if in the same spot all the time, he smells somthing that excites him. If he does it and then lays down, he is nesting......trying to get comfortable.
Firmly tell him NO, and when he stops tell him good boy. Get right on him each time he starts and you will get it stopped quick.
If it is in the same place each time mix a capful of bleach with 2 cups of water and stray the area. It will eliminate the smell and he will leave it alone.

when you catch him doing it say NO in a firm but not yelling or angry tone. and get up and go over to him and make him sit and stay. if he goes back to it, do the same thing over and over. consistency is the best thing. put him in a crate when you can't observe him and he won't be able to do it when you're not able to catch him.
