Here's the recipe folks, I have given imperial measurements. Here goes then,
8oz plain flour.
8oz margerine.
8oz sugar.
5 fluid ounce mik.
4oz milk chocolate.
1 teaspoon vanilla essence.
1/2-1 teaspoon butterscotch essence.
Put the flour, sugar and margerine into a pan and make a roux stirring all the time. Add the chocolate , the vanilla essence and the butterscotch essence to your own personal taste, I like to use galaxy chocolate, just keep adding liquid flavourings a drop at a time, if you put in to much butterscotch flavour it tastes a bit like some sort of chemical. Add the milk slowly a little bit at a time until you have a smooth fairly runny caramel mix put into pre baked short crust baking case, home made or shop brought doesnt matter which, put the caramel tart into the fridge when mix has cooled down. Then make sure the kids are out get a cup of tea, put your feet up and enjoy your homemade caramel tart. DELICIOUS., Let me know if you try it whether you enjoyed it

Yes! It was the treat of the week, that and Gypsy Tart. So much better than the semolina pudding that was soggy and the bland overcooked rice pudding that you had to cut with a knife.
Do us all a great favour and post your delicious recipe as an "add on" to your question. I will try it on my young visitors. They don't get it at school these days, as it is supposed to be too fattening (and too much trouble for the kitchen staff to produce).
Thanks for the memory...and the recipe.

Ohh, I love caramel. I remember treacle tart, we had that a lot. Homemade banoffee pie is a good one, I make a mean one of those. Wanna trade recipes?
