I received an impeding traffic ticket in NYC. I've searched the net but have seen different answers - mostly things that were brought down to impeding traffic. Being that this is what I started out with, any chance of getting out of it? Worse case scenario, what am I facing (fees, points, record).. that sort of jazz.

Thanks in advance

Yes, you will get some advice here.

Any charge can be contested, and should be if you feel you were not in violation. At the end of the day, no matter what state you are in, the ONLY thing that matters is what THE JUDGE SAYS.

Go to court and plead your case, what ever the details may be, don't take a piss and moan attitude, be polite - to the point - and professional (they don't like to waste time hearing irrelevant details) e.g Your Honor I am appearing today to contest the charge of impeading traffic, (if you were cycling for example) I was unable for a brief time to move further to the right, I was aware of the situation and moved over as quickly as possible I feel it was unreasonable to be cited given the circumstances. etc etc. , again, polite, to the point.

In your favor - The officer may not show - case dissmissed
The Judge may find the circumstances did NOT warrant the citation - cost of court only. Yes, it DOES happen.

This is a small matter, the cost of an attorney would be more than the fine and court costs. Defend yoursef, worst case you loose and pay the fine you would have ANYWAY, Judges do have sympathy IF you plead a reasonable explanation and may reduce or dissmiss, again it ONLY matters what the JUDGE SAYS.

If you have a long list of citations and criminal record, this may not be a good day for you. Probably looking at $100 fine give or take and maybe a point or two. Even if you were blatenly in violation the officer may not show in which case you win!

Good luck..

Did you impede traffic? Well, then you deserve the ticket.

You could face anywheres from a fine with points, which does go on your records, duhhhh. Or you could just end up with a fine or perhaps community service.

Be very nice to the judge but do not lie. Take the consequences of your behavior!

Why do you want to get out of it? Were you not impeding traffic? Or you just seem to think you're above the other drivers on the road? You're probably facing no more than a few fees.... it's not as if you were speeding. Best bet, drive courteously, as you expect the people around you to do.

Well, as you didn't bother to fill us in on any of the facts and allegations, there's no way to tell. Call an attorney if you want legal advice -- you certainly won't get it here.

Just tell them you were drunk, or tell them you lost your contact lens and you were looking for it.
