My husband is trying to get back into college. He is in the process of getting his permenent residency. The paperwork is filed and we have the reciet numbers ect. Also we have done the physical. We still havent done the interview or fingerprinting. My question is can he attend college while it is pending without the card or the employeement card. He was out of status before he applied for premenent residency.

I can't provide an answer, but here are a few pointers on where to look:

- You can ask the person at the college in charge of international admissions. They will likely be helpful, as it is in their interest that your husband attend. I would be very surprised if this was *not* possible, since PR applications can sometimes take a few years.

- You could also try to find and ask an immigration lawyer in your area (I used http://www.ailalawyer.com/). Lawyers, of course, charge outrageous fees (rarely worth it), but if you approach them right in the initial e-mail, they might give you a small piece of free advice in the beginning (which is all you need).

Sorry if this wasn't specific enough. Good luck with the PR app.

It all depends on which state you are from. In some states, he might be able to register as a student and it could be that since he is changing his immigration status, he might be eligible for financial aid if necessary. If there's any concern about "safety," I suggest you call up the school and ask what their policy is. Many times you might need to show permanent residency status in order to be fully enrolled into the school, but perhaps your husband will be able to register for classes in the mean time. Good luck!
