Pit bulls - Very controversial, lot's to right about them.
Labrador Retriever - A great family pet, very common, most popular breed today.
German Shepherd - Health is a big worry, fantastic family dog but is used more in guarding/watch dog which is a shame as they are great family dogs.
Greyhound - has a long history, used in racing, is commonly abandoned after they can't race anymore.
Golden Retriever - has a long list of health problems, life span is going down due to irresponsible breeding, fantastic loving family pet.

I personally am partial to the American Bulldog...but if you have to do a report, why not pick a dog that you're interested in? Go to a website like www.petsonline.com and just look at pictures for a little while. See what kind of dog appeals to you and go with that breed. All breeds of dogs have a unique background and personality...so if you have to do this report...pretend you're getting a puppy and try to figure out what kind you want...then research it to find out if it would be a good dog for your situation.

I think the greyhounds was a good idea. There's plenty to write about. They're roots go very far back and you can also write about how they're used and abandoned today in racing. That would have the most variety to write about. Every other dog would only have a past and skill to write about.
