Maybe I am having just a bad few weeks, months, years, I don't know. But more and more I have to wonder if there is such a love rearing God. Why is there so much pain in this world. I by far do not have a bad life, as some others do, but at times after seeing so many friends pass away, all before they turned 24, my Grandfather who meant the world to me, and just all the hell that others do. People hurting children, sufering, non stop. My other Grandpa is now on hospice. They are doing "Gods" job, right? But he is in so much pain, and it seems to never end. Why keep him here? Some times I feel that we are all just puppets on a string and God is tugging at them and laughing. I use to have so much faith, but as you grow up and really see all of THIS, how can you believe? Please I really don't want to be lectured, just thoughts and maybe some advice. Thanks.

This is not our final home, and it is supposed to be hard sometimes. It does not mean God is not in control, but he is still sovereign. This life hurts badly sometimes, and the death we see, was brought on by sin, not God's original plan for us, not the best one. I am so sorry to hear about your other grandpa. That is so sad, and I remember feeling similar when my grandma died. Tell God exactly how you feel, the good, bad and ugly. He can take whatever you can dish out, and wants you to talk to him about it We are not just puppets on a string, we are God's children, with a choice. The bible actually promised we would suffer, and go through hard times, so you are actually right where you need to be. It isn't fun, but God's ways are so above ours, we just cannot see the full picture right now. He asks that you trust him, and wants you to know this is not how it will be forever. Jesus is coming back, and we cannot go through anything Jesus didn't already go through, regarding feelings or pain. God is our advocate, and during these times when you feel you can hardly even pray at times, know the Holy Spirit prays for you, with words that you could not even believe. I pray you find some peace and rest during this time, and know that it comes from God. I wish you the best....

First of all, let me say that I am sorry that you are hurting. Secondly, I am still figuring out exactly what it is that I believe in. With that said, I tend to look at it this way: if life was great all the time, and there was no pain or no suffering- just smiles and laughter at every turn, then would we need God? No. It is during the hard times that we truly realize there is something more than just air around us. I do not know if God is real, or if He/She hears me or takes interest in my life, but I do know that there is some sort of higher power, a plan for our lives (if you will) and what you are experiencing now is just a natural part of spiritual development. If you keep your faith and it makes you stronger or you lose your faith and it makes you stronger- in the end, your life will work out exactly as it is supposed to and the cloud hovering over you will soon evaporate.

I hope things look up for you, no matter what you decide!

as to the original question; sure, there are plenty of other religions that deal with the afterlife (in fact all religions speculate on the afterlife) some have another god, many gods, or even no gods, although no popular religions today have many gods aside from some form of wicca. Buddhism doesn't have a god at all.

You can also have any form of personal belief and believe just about anything you please. Indeed most already do, they are generally christian or what have you, but each person has thier own concept and understanding of it all. How many people say god doesn't care about gays or drugs as long as you're a good person. And there are obviously those who disagree with this.

The loving god is a new invention for our peaceful times. In old days god was vengeful and wrathful, he'll burn your city down and flood the world.

There are many religions that believe in some form of life after death without believing in God. The point, however, is that believing in God doesn't give you a free pass in life from all of the pain. Life was perfect until humans decided to exercise their free will so the world is what we have caused it to be. Still, there is beauty and hope and the promise that God will be with you through the pain.

As to your main question, I understand that that is actually a doctrine in Buddhism, that there is no supreme being, but there is a heaven which we can achieve. I'm not a buddhist, but that is what I know they believe.

As to facing death in this life, I too have already lost all but one of my grandparents. My grandmother was close to me. And before she died she talked to me and asked me about how my life has turned out so far. I think that was her way of saying goodbye. She died peacefully a few months later.

I think you just need some closure with your grandfather too. Its completely natural to feel the way you do. And if there is a God, I'm sure he understands what you are going through. And remember that no puppet will ever feel the way that you do. Just remain brave and strong, for the sake of your love for your grandfather.

There are cultures which do infact believe that a soul is a byproduct of a virtuous life, leading to an afterlife in a higher plane.

Personally, I still believe in an all-powerful being of pure love. There's pain, anguish and suffering here - yes. I see it and it breaks me as well, but this world needed free will, and therefor dark painful occurances manifest as well. I guess its easier to get a handle on if we believe that all these horrors are infinitely smaller than an eternity of perfection. :)

Well its more just wishful thinking in my opinion. But i am very sorry for your granpas troubles. I went through the same thing before i became an atheist. But instead of focusing on the pain and hopelessness try to think about how you can make everyones life better and your own. Our life on this earth is a very short one. And we all need to branch out to our fellow man and try to give ourselves and everyone. The most happiest fulfilling life thats possible. Good luck on your journey.

Ma'am, I too believe in God. the God that I believe in would not flood the earth or send anyone to hell for their sexual activity.

Please do not let religion turn you away if you do believe. If you don't believe, that is fine too.

Spirituality is a personal experience. I feel that as long as you are not trying to force your religious dogma on anyone you are free to do and believe whatever feels right for you.

We live in a fallen world. Jesus has promised to come back and change things. He has promised to wipe away all of our tears. We will just have to wait patiently.
Rev 21:14 He will wipe every tear from their eyes. there will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.

God is NOT a loving conscious being somewhere. God is only the process of life and death. Its the proving that there is an afterlife is the perplexing part
