i have been battling depression for about 2 years. about one year ago i started binge eating quite regularly and put on a lot of weight. i still struggle with binges and i'm definitely struggling to try and drop the weight.
while i was depressed i stopped doing everything, going out with my friends, talking to them even, no more family outings or even family time. i was a complete loner and an insomniac. this made everything so much worse and i struggled by myself for a long time.
only in the past 2-3 months or so have i made the effort to get back out there - i got a job which has kept me busy, i'm slowly starting to get back in touch with my friends and i'm spending more time with my family. i'm also gaining control of my eating patterns. this is all fantastic. but there's still a problem.
the days that i work (tuesday - saturday) i have my routine established. i eat healthy, i exercise and i sometimes go out. i feel in control.... (more details)

But come Saturday night after work, I always seem to binge which makes me feel horrible, so Sunday I feel depressed and I binge again, then Monday I binge because I feel like crap. It’s a cycle that I’ve unfortunately become used to.
It’s obvious that I only seem to respond to routine, and when something breaks that routine I feel out of control and as a result I binge.
I just really want to know how to be able to break that cycle without feeling like I’ve failed and without having to result to emotional eating.
I know it’s a tough question but I’d really appreciate any help you can offer because it’s driving me insane and it’s wasting my life. I’m only 20 years old. I don’t want to live like this.
thanks

Make habit of a routine on your days off work also. Wake up at the same time you would on days that you would be working and take a shower, get dressed, whatever you do in the morning but instead of going to work make a different routine, go to the gym, to the park, out with friends, to the movies, whatever...it is obvious you respond to routine so make a routine.

well, it is hard for me to say something 'right' so that you will stop your binge eating and all. especially since when you can see your faults and yet you can't do much to help yourself. you need something more than just advice. see a therapist, i am sure it will help you. they know what to tell you, and how to solve your problem.
