Kids are always going to prefer what you have, they start that as babies, lol. You could tell them beforehand, "Okay, I'm having a tuna sandwich. You can either have that or macaroni, but whatever I make for you you have to eat. No changing your mind later." Just make it clear that they WILL eat what's prepared for them. Usually that takes care of it.

why are you serving different food to your kids than what you have? do you think you're better because you're older? they're people too, they are just less experienced in life and that is all, show them a little dignity. If you think you need to shed a few pounds, take smaller portions or skip a meal if you think you can afford to. Don't take your insufficiencies out on your kids. This is your problem not theirs. And if you're designating nights for the types of food that's prepared, don't you think it's possible that your kids might be just a little bored of the monotony. And yes, I have children of my own; 10, 12, and 14 are their ages.

I only make one meal. So it doesn't happen in our house. But usually kids see you enjoying something so then they want it

that's kids for you. the only thing to do is to firmly tell them no if they truly can not have what you are eating
i personally don't do this...kids always come first, and if they want it and it's healthy, i can't say no...i just eat what's left over (if anything lol)
