My 3 year old suffers from nightmares. She's had them since she was a kitten. How do I know it's a nightmare? She's growling and hissing and sometimes crying in her sleep. The events surrounding her adoption were a little traumatic - but her life has been pure bliss since. Any suggestions? (I'm researching some crystals to try - so suggestions on those would also be welcome!)

She IS from a feral community, but she's tamed beautifully. The most gentle & affectionate cat I've ever met. (But catnip makes her violent...)

I agree with the suggestion of waking the cat up gently. I would have to caution, though, against touching it to wake it up when it's hissing. My cat has had some hissing ones where he will wake up with his claws out...Not too safe for me! Call out his/her name calmly and nudge them with something soft, like a pillow.

my cat has nightmares and I have found that gently waking him up with a tender touch is helpful. Sometimes there isn't a whole lot more to do and this is what a couple vets told me so I have just disrupt the nightmare and then the cat falls back asleep without any problems.

you may have a kitten from a wild cat. We had one, evidently the mom had a difficult pregnancy and the kitten were born very uneasy

My dog has nightmares. I wake her up when I see her having them and tell her she's with us and she's safe and everything is alright.
