You can make a Idol out of anything. But what is real; What matters most is our creator. We are created in the Image of God. And Our Bodies are the temple of the Lord. Earthen vessels holding a unique, Gift of God.life; Sometimes we get uppity, and Think we know more than God. And boy do we get in trouble when we get things out of order!
There is a reason he said no idols before him. Those idols can hurt us so bad. We sever the presence and closeness of God when Idols get between us And God.

Some would call it blasphemy, not so much because it's in a comic book, but because there are faiths that hold that any pictorial depiction of God is just that (I don't), some would call it that even though you can't get away from the picture of Jesus-as-fair-haired-white-man in Christian churches. There are many other examples of illustrations of God - and not just as a burning bush- used as a teaching tool , and in many great works of art. Are these idolatry ? If one accepts God as a trinity, then are those pictures of Jesus idolatry ? Hmm...wonder where this leaves those who consider Catholics idolaters ? Just meandering thoughts, but BTW, I adore Robert Crumb, and wish I knew which issue that was. Private me ?

Anything you put ahead of God is idolatry. One thing you can do with all your possessions, put a sign on it, temporary. Everything that you had to have, is temporary. You've been waiting all your life to get your dream car. Temporary. One day it's going to be hauled to the junk yard. The PC you're know reading this on, temporary. It will be in the garbage so you can have room for your new temporary PC. The new clothes you just had to have. Temporary. You'll need new clothes next season. The house you're living in. Temporary.
There is only one thing that you can put your faith in that won't be temporary. The one thing that won't be idolatry. Put your trust in Jesus Christ, and your sign will read, eternity.

Idolatry is a major sin in the Abrahamic religions regarding image. In Judaism and Christianity it is defined as worship of an image, idea or object, as opposed to the worship of a supreme being. In some versions of Islam, the creation of imagery itself as well as its worship would amount to idolatry or shirk. The Shia minority is more apt to use representation of religious figures in art. In religions where such activity is not considered as sin, the term "idolatry" itself is absent. Which images, ideas, and objects, constitute idolatry, and which constitute reasonable worship, is a matter of contention with some religious authorities and groups using the term to describe certain other religions apart from their own.

if you believe in the God character then, yes, other worship would be considered idolatry, But if you have a different view of the God character, then it would be idolatry to worship someone else's God character. Get it?

Don't forget sex, drugs, and entertainment. Your television set could easily be considered an idol. Think about it. That is where you sacrifice much time, talent, and treasure. Time because of all the time you waste in front of it, Talent because you don't do anything while watching it, and treasure when you purchase that huge big-screen TV and the cable/satellite connection to go with it. Yup. An idol.

Peace!
Idolatry consists in divinizing what is not God. Man commits adultery whenever he honors and reveres a creature in place of God, whether this be gods or demons, power, pleasure, race, ancestors, the state, money, etc. Jesus said, "You cannot serve God and mammon."

Defiantly not.
If you have a faith, it is one of the most cherished things you have. "God" comes in many forms, many cultures have different names. that is not to say there are different Gods, just different names.
So all the wars that are fought over religion are over names and ideas, not off faith or perspective
