Some people really are that socially stupid. And usually when that is the case, they know beyond a shadow of a doubt that they are right... probably the most dangerous kind of person. And people that are just purposefully mean, know that what they say only has partial credence.

I would say that 99% of the time those comments and left-handed compliments come from that person's own felling of inferiority, they must bring others down in order bring themselves up. They usually don't consciously realize what they are doing.

I think that most people are nice inside. But sometimes they mistakenly feel that the only way they can relate to people is to tease them. Boys often do this to girls they like, for example. Also, some people who are having a hard time can sometimes lash out at the people around them. But I think that many regret it later.

well, to truly know the difference you have to know the person's motives...we can never really know what another person's motives are, so you just basically have to make a judgement on the person's character...is he/she the type of person to say hurtful things, because they like being sarcastic or take enjoyment in putting others down...OR, do they just seem a little inept...if you get to know the person well enough, you can tell the difference...good luck!

If someone does it over and over again, and it is stuff that they would have no idea is hurting you, then I would call it ignorance. Otherwise, they are just being mean, like if they know it is something that bothers you or something you have specifically told them about.

about 2% of the time you really run into a mean nasty type of person that really gets off on making people feel like crap, you know the really toxic ones .it ,s just best to weed them out of your life. the rest of it i put down to social retardation, being sure of who you are and self confidence is the best shield i know of,

What does your instinct tell you? Go with your gut.
If a person is continually making these kind of comments, then put him/her in your "jerk file".

The bimbo airhead replied, "I don't know and I don't care." Watch out everyone, if you didn't refer to the airhead, that would make YOU THE AIRHEAD. Old jokes never die.
