You need to decide which is more important to you-- the girlfriend or the dog. She is within her rights to not want a dog as big as a person in the bed with you, and what happens when you guys make love??? Does the dog want to play too??? That would make me run away from you and your dog. Your bed should be for people, and your dog should have his own bed. By the way, letting your dog sleep in your bed can also cause a lot of problems with dominance, esp if she isn't there all the time. Pick one to be in the bed-- whichever one gives you more satisfaction. Good Luck!!

Tough one. Big dog. Probably smart, too. A good compromise would be to move him off the bed when she's there. I think the dog will get it that when she's there, the bed is off limits. I said it was a compromise. I personally respect your relationship with your dog and I feel the dog should not be kicked off the bed, but I can also see it from your gf's point of view. So a compromise might be your only choice. Unless, of course, it's either a him or her choice. In principle, one should not back down to ultimatums, so she would have to go.

Three options:
1) Choose between your girlfriend and your dog, and/or get a bigger bed.
2) Put the dog outside or in another room on the nights she stays over.
3) Train the dog to spend the night in a specialized sleeping crate, then keep it in your bedroom near your bed. This isn't as cruel as it sounds at first. It is the first thing they teach them in obedience school for helping dogs. As long as you never leave him there too long it will be fine for him. Make sure it is plenty big enough for the size he will become. He just sleeps while you are sleeping anyway, this should be like his own "bed". Make sure it has a good mat in it too : )
(Pet owners who had a fire in their home were glad the dog was in the crate. He woke them barking, then they were easily able to grab him and get him out without having to search the house or under the bed for him. It's safer!)
Good Luck.

Hmmm, if you won't make the dog move for your woman, then you need to sleep on the couch and let her have the bed, or stop dating. A dog is a dog, and I mean they are part of the family, but god, your woman should be more important, unless you want to drive women away and never date again. Not saying that you can't love your dog, but do what you can to make your gf more comfortable around him, or else find other sleeping arrangements for the dog.

How funny I have the same problem as you, my boyfriend doesn't like our dog in the bed either. She is a seven month old pit. She is so funny I tell her to go to bed and instead of going to her bed she goes to ours. We just have her sleep towards the bottom of the bed and he's a little more comfortable with that. because I told him I have to have her on the bed so I can feel her get up when she has to go out, and I'd rather be able to feel her get up when she's gotta go than clean up a mess in the morning and have a stinky house.

It's normal if not everyone likes dog. There are also people who are allergic to the dog's fur. Actually, dogs should have their own place in the house even if they're man's best friend for hygiene. Maybe you could leash your favorite dog for a couple of days or both of you could use a folding bed.

It doesn't sound from your post like your g/f dislikes the dog; it just sounds like she prefers not to share the bed with it at night. Sounds like a reasonable request to me! As much as I love dogs and am certainly not new to them, I would not want one in my bed, either. And not just for the hygienic reasons, but also for the sake of being able to sleep (and do the deed :) without another 65-lb body in the bed. But I think you should also ask yourself, who is more important to you, your g/f or the dog? If I were in your g/f's shoes, it would really hurt my feelings if I asked my b/f to remove the dog from our bed and he refused, especially when I stayed at his place so infrequently.

Well I am no expert but I think most guys would rather have their girlfriend in bed than their dog...but if you insist let your girl know she can come over and sleep with me, and the only dog in the bed will be me...

The dog lives there, she doesn't. Let the dog stay on the bed! However, I've seen how big those mastiffs can get and you'll probaby have to buy another mansized bed just for the dog...:)
