we have new leather furniture and my cat likes to claw it with a vengance. My cat is too old to be declawed and I need a solution fast. Other than covering the furniture with throws is there anything that I can put on the leather that would make it unattractilve to my cat?

Hi Anntoinet...consider trimming your cat's nails to blunt the ends and try a glue-on nail covers product called SoftPaws which will soften the tips further.

Here's an instructional video by Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine for Feline Health on how to trim a cats nails: http://www.felinevideos.vet.cornell.edu/trimming_claws/index.shtml

Big thumbs up to Seattle!!! Don't ever ever ever declaw your cat - that's why things like softpaws exist!! Check out www.angelpaws.co.za for info on declawing...

i agree with angelpaws, softpaws are the greatest thing since sliced bread. your cat will still scratch till his ears turn blue, but your furnature won't be harmed.

and they're very cheap and easy to use!

there are anticat spays which smell bad to cats but i don't think those will help you with leather.

NEVER DECLAW PLEASE!!!!!!!!!! I'll beg you try trimming their claws with sharp nail clippers, thats the quickest. or try soft pawsYou can order them online and they are purrrrrfect! my kitty wears them! http://www.softpaws.com/ They are vinyl nail caps that just glue on most cats don't even know they are wearing them
