Being a former Police Chief I hired a little lady just like you, promoted her to Sgt. Then to Lt. She is three times better than some officers and I would trust her with my life. She is well respected by members of the community and Kids. If she is afraid of anything, she doesn't show it and is very dependable in doing her job and more.Size doesn't matter, it all depends on the person. When I first hired her, I had more questions like what if she confronts a drunk and gets hurt. Well it was the drunk that I worried about and as far as getting hurt, the biggest officers out there get hurt.. I think a department full of women would be a good department. BTW, I am a male.

I know here (Ontario, Canada), there used to be height & weight standards for police officers, but they've since taken them away, and replaced them with stamina.

The smaller officers, I think, get outfitted with somewhat different weapons (guns with a smaller grip, etc).... and maybe sometimes a big partner ;)

There use to be a minimum hight requirment, but it's been removed, but your weight must be proportionate to your height, and/or must meet body fat standards as established by the police department you're joining. As for can you handle it ? My 5'2 girlfriend can beat me up at will, and I'm 6'3 :( It's all about training :)

I was thinking about it as I was going walking through the train station at Union Square. I doubt it because you need to be able to handle yourself and arrest people; it would be very easy for someone to overtake a petite young woman.

Why not. . . training may be a little tough, but there is any reason you can't do what a 6ft 200lbs man could do!!!! Most of it's mental anyway, and we all know women are the "brains" of any outfit

It all depends on the police dept you apply to. It has more to do with your ability to pass the physical tests they give you...and your stamina. Check with them.
