Hey.....Guess what....Sony's SXRD is another name for......

LCOS!!

SXRD = Super Xga Reflective Display......
That's what LCOS IS....Liquid Crystal on Silicon (glass)

LCOS does not have the "screen door effect" that you >Barely< see with an LCD TV.....

The clarity is determined by how many lines of NATIVE RESOLUTION your LCD or LCOS display projects onto the screen....In other words it's better to get 1080 lines of resolution rather than 720 lines of resolution....More detail in the higher numbers.

Both technologies are pretty reliable, but since LCD has been out LONGER.....I guess I'd trust it more....

Believe it or not, I trust a CRT projection TV more than either of these newer technologies.......hey it's been debugged SINCE 1978!!
LCD has been debugged since 1999....and LCOS/SXRD since 2003....
.
I bought a Hitachi 51F59 for $800.00 at Circuit City early December. I like the stunning sharpness of it, even with a low-def signal....that's a CRT projection unit for you....

If you're referring to LCD Projection than from the outside almost no different. The different is in the optical block where the LCOS/SXRD uses three small SXRD while the LCD uses three small LCD. LCOS/SXRD is the newest technology the picture is better based on the spec the viewing angle is the same but when I look in the real unit I think the SXRD viewing angle is better than the LCD. but of course the LCOS/SXRD price is higher than the LCD and it comes in bigger screen.
