the physical body returns to where it came, the earth, the mind ascends to other levels, and at some point you may come back into a physical form if you wish or need to

Well, I'm a believer in God and Jesus. But from a scientific stand point of view your body ceases to produce or make spontanious energy.
Science Engery can't be created nor destoryed, your body cses to convert something with engery into othre forms of engery.
Your body also cease to repair itself.
When my mother died the Doctor say her organs were shutting down one by one.
It may sounded strange, but I did some occult studies and in Astrology the most common form of death was from "drowning" and after studying a bit of medicine I quickly learned most people die from Pumonary Edemia. What that means is your heart can no longer pump fluids from your lungs, hence you die from drowning.
Isn't that interesting.
Flem, that stuff you cough up, clogs the lung sacks and keeps air from reaching the blood. You die from a lot of lugies in your lungs that your heart can't pump out anymore.
So, what happens just before you die is you generally start to drown from your own fluids and die from gradual suffocation which renders you unconscious.
Then your body starts to shut down organ by organ and the body ceases to convert sugar into electro-mechnical (ATP) energy that allows you to move and makes the muscles work.
You run out of juice and drown in your own juices.
That what happens to most of you when you die and this is mostly scientific.
What, if anything, happens after death is religious.
The soul or the essence. The electro static charges of the brain that no longer retain their state of charge. Do they fly off into the air like free electrons.
It's not beyond the realm of science to say it isn't so. I don't know if anyone has ever bothered to measure it.
Or are we like a computer that loses electrical power. All the FLIP FLOPS that open and close do to charges clear and go to the default OFF position once the charge is gone.
Hindus say that energy, that soul, that essence becomes reincarnated.
That was the CONSERVATION OF ENERGY LAW, long before SCIENCE came along and made that law.
Before Science spoke on the subject, Hindus spoke on that subject.
If I'm not mistaken, Catholics also beleive the souls of unborn babies leave and go to other babies when they are to be still born or when they are ejected.

What better person to answer it than a Christian? Don't be deceived. It's heaven or hell. The devil wants you to be deceived, but I beg you don't be. Your body will die, but your soul will live forever. You may not be a Christian, but today I pray that you will open your heart to the Lord. Tomorrow is not always promised to us, but it is up to us to be ready when Jesus comes. And the day you die, He has come for you! If you want some good reading that will really make you think, I suggest two books. A DIVINE REVELATION OF HEAVEN and A DIVINE REVELATION OF HELL by Mary K. Baxter. These books will definitely get you to thinking! I suggest you read the one on hell first. If that don't scare you into getting saved. I don't know what will. God bless you and I want you to know that I am praying for you and I mean that.

Wow, the great unkown.... that's a question that has been asked for centuries, and it has gotten a lot of various answers, hasn't it? I have my beleifs, and you have yours, and so does everyone else. We've all been taught one thing or another about 'after we die' but no one who's still here, alive on Earth, knows beyond a shadow of a doubt, do they? I'm in no hurry to die, but I'm rather excited about finding out the real answer to that question. Who was right--anyone? Or was all these religions way off track and it's something no one expected? ...the 'great unkown'--death and everythying after....

Since there is not a shred of evidence that consciousness exists beyond biology (from brain injury studies, etc.), then it appears that as the life processes cease, we do, too.
When we die we become bags of chemical goo. And the professionals come in and help make that biohazard a bit more palatable to be around until we are disposed of.

I think you are greeted by your loved ones that passed on before you. Then you review your life and choose whether to be reborn or stay for a while in the spirit realm. There are levels of the spirit world and you will stay on the level that befits your soul until it is ready to advance.

You stop breathing, first of all. Then your brain goes blank. All systems shut down, and sometimes you even fall over (unless you're already laying down). Then they take you to the morgue, suck all the blood out, replace it with formaldehyde, bundle you up in a suit and tie, and stick you in a box for a bunch of hypocrites to pretend to cry over. After that they take the box and drop it in a hole in the ground, cover it up, and lay fake grass over it. Then they give your survivors a bill that gives them a heart attack and the process starts all over again.

Death is inevitable. The thief on the cross knew when his would occur, but we can not predict our own. After his death, the crucified criminal went to live in paradise with Jesus. Some of us will also live eternally in God's presence. But others will experience everlasting torment, forever separated from Him.
If we receive Jesus as our Savior, our penalty for sin is paid. We are adopted into God's family, and Heaven is our eternal home. If we reject Jesus, we remain alienated from the Lord and under condemnation for our sin. We are destined to experience eternal judgment. God won't accept any of man's excuses because there is no acceptable defense for unbelief. (Acts 4:12)
Become part of God's family today. Acknowledge your sinfulness, and express your faith in these words:
"God, I have sinned against You. (Romans 3:23) I've followed my own way and refused to give You the right to rule in my life. (Romans 3:10-12) I recognize I am separated from You and cannot rescue myself. I do believe that Jesus Christ is Your Son. I accept the truth of the Scriptures? that His death on the cross paid my sin-debt in full. (1 Corinthians 15:3-4) And I ask You to forgive me of my sins. (1 John 1:9) By faith, I receive You, Lord Jesus, as my personal Savior from this moment on."
If you just spoke those words to God, then, like the thief on the cross, you have received salvation? a gift of God's grace. The heavenly Father welcomes every person who comes to Him through His Son, regardless of background, age, or current situation. Through Jesus, the right to enter paradise is yours!

You are reborn, unless you are "enlightened" (meaning you've learned to give up attachments to physical possessions and desires and learn to live live "in the moment"), then you just "extinguish" and become one with everything, part of the universe and time.
