If u like him...go out with him...if you don't like him and u just want him as a friend that he has been over 10 yrs.. then just tell him...tell him what the situation is..and that if you do go out with him that he cannot expect nothing more than just the friendship that you 2 already have,,,,,
It's not worth losing a friendship of 10 years for something that you know that's not going to last...

Well, the question to ask yourself is; while of course you do not want to lose him as a friend, do you like him as potentially more than just a friend? If you do, let him know that you want to take a chance on something more, but also be clear that no matter what, you want the 2 of you to always remain friends. I believe it is certainly possible for this to happen even if things were not to work out romantically. If on the other hand, you appreciate the fact that he asked you out, but are not interested in purusing it further than that of a friendship, I would let him know this in the gentlest way possible as well, and state that you appreciate him having expressed his interest in you, but just do not feel the same way, and don't want to lead him on, but do want to keep his friendship. I hope this helps and good luck. :)

So go out with him. What's to lose? Any friendship that has lasted ten years isn't going to go blooey over a bad date, if it turns out to be bad, which isn't likely.

this is a decision only you can make
this can go so many different ways
1. you say no and he dont accept that and isnt your friend anymore
2. you say yes and it dont work out you still lose
3. you say no and everything stays the same
4. you say yes and date everything works and you all end up together for life........who knows anything can happen, but you have to make the choice

Then be honest and let him know that , tell him its not that you dont like him but you value your friendship with him and dont want to risk losing it if things didnt work out .

If you have no romantic inclination toward him then try to turn it into an event with a few other friends as well.

Go out with him. If you two are good friends then it won't ruin a friendship.

How do you feel about him? Is it worth the friendship? Is it worth not taking a risk?
