If the troops lack discipline - then look at the leadership. When I took over as 1SG for the first time I fired two of my platoon sergeants within two months. When I had a squad leader fail the APFT and fail to make weight - I put an SPC in charge of the squad.

I also backed the decisions made by my platoon sergeants regarding rewards or punishments 100%.

Within a few months my soldiers were disciplined, my NCOs were both leading and setting the example - any my unit's esprit had risen immeasurably.

Disciplined troops are the result of how well your NCOs are doing their job.

I think alot of it has to do with the big picture not being available.

When people are doing something they believe in, motivation is inherent to the cause.

National loyalty and patriotism is getting diminished due to the global communications available to each person.

I think people are seeing themselves as citizens of our planet instead of the "home" country.

True, we do have some freedoms, but with all the traveling we have done collectively, we see that happiness is available in every part of the world. Even the non-capitalist ones.

So I say, the lack of discipline is caused by getting half-truths about our role in the betterment of mankind and our asking of ourselves on what is the best solution and if we are doing the right thing. I feel many people get trapped within the financial security the military offers.

There are not any ordinary days, yet i'll grant you with an theory. if you're in garrison, think ofyou've got to report at about 5:30 or 6:00, think ofyou've got morning PT from about 6:30 to 7:30, you'll change, devour, breakfast, and then you'll have guns degrees, maintence, particular preparation, or short feild routines, or different routines. there is also an excellent purchase of waiting round and an excellent purchase of having messed with by way of the NCOs if some thing is going incorrect. you'd be despatched to dinner chow by way of about 5:30, you'll often be let go by way of then. There are also an excellent type of three-day or 4-day weekends in garrison, yet they warfare no longer o make it to ordinary, basically adequate to make up for the numerous weekends spent contained in the feild. if you're on an prolonged-time period keep fit workout, you'd be sleep deprived each of the time, would could sleep on the floor below a poncho and a skinny blanket with you boots on an excellent type of the time (althoug if it extremely is chilly, you'll get the luxury of a napping bag), you receives eaten alive by way of insects no be counted how a lot computer virus jiuce you positioned on, and if contained in the gentle infantry or Airborne, think ofyou've got to stroll round all day with 50+ pounds on your lower back (actual "gentle," huh?). In Iraq or Afghanistan, you'd be patrolling strolling or in HUMMVs or armored automobiles, otherwise status seem after at some examine factor or gate. there'll be a "lengthy sessions of finished boredom, punctuated by way of a few short moments of sheer terror," as someone in the previous me once stated.

Who are you trying to kid? My son is an Officer & he said undisciplined troops come from lazy Officers. His men do not lack discipline. I have meet them & was very impressed. A DUI will cost you all your rank & a couple of thousand - it sounds like discipline to me.

War does not erode good soldiers, just those that were looking for free tution. Stress strengthens men - "what does not kill you, makes you stronger".

Lack of discipline within any branch of the U.S. military may be attributed to conflicting ideologies in the White House, military strategists, and media reports supplied to the American public.

Each entity has their agenda. President Bush, and his supporters, are holding to their past decisions. Generals, Majors, Captains, Lieutenants, Sargents, are supporting their troops; their men.

Morale among the Armed Forces serving in Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, and other Middle Eastern countries has no doubt deteriotized; but, the U.S. has many Armed Forces personnel on duty in Germany, England, Italy, Japan, Guam, Hawaii, Alaska, who are reaping the benefits of government paychecks, housing for their dependents, and medical care who are not in "harms way".

The U.S. Military has become "Corporate America".

SGT,

It is the ENTITLED GENERATION and they are ALL a "PITA"

There parents have been kissing their asses since birth with participation trophies and the like. They feel abused if they don't get a new BMW for their 16th birthday and mommy and daddy pay all of their bills.

STANDING UP on their own is just a TOTALLY NEW concept to them and I do NOT envy you in your task.

I SALUTE YOU for SERVING and BE SAFE!!
