Okay, let's get this started.

First, there are over 30 terrorist groups with cells in Canada. Thanks to our immigration laws, it's extremely easy for them to get in. This is where they hide when the heat is cranked on at home, or where they stash their families. This is where they train, get education, raise funds and recruit. So, on one hand, you have these guys all over the country but while the dumb ones come up with plans to behead the Prime Minister, the smart ones live by a "don't **** where you live" sort of thinking.

However, wer wre named as one of Al-Qaeda's top 5 countries on their target list, right up there with the US. Because of our involvement in Afghanistan and the success of our operations, we're starting to be a bit of an annoyance to them. While I am a soldier and it is my job to keep this country safe, I know that there is close to sweet FA that I can do from my end to prevent a terror attack from happening, just like a million British troops in London could not have prevented the subway and bus bombings of 2005.

So no, we are not the safest country in the world.

For the one who says free heath care means you can't choose your provider, we all have the same provider the government, we can chose what ever doctor or hospital we want.

Canada has has close calls with regards to terrorism, seeing as though Canada is fulfilling a NATO obligation in Afghanistan we are vulnerable. Canada has the worlds longest coastline to protect which creates a unique challenge with regards to national security. Canada has recently uncovered terrorist activity and arrested the offenders, some have already stood trial. The RCMP is highly involved in international intelligence.

Canada is not the safest county in the world but it is safer than most. With regards to violent crime, Canada has lower statistics than our neighbor to the south. Geographically we are less susceptible to certain natural disasters. We have an accessible heath care system so in the instance of illness treatment is obtainable.

I don't. I'm not sure of safest country but I doubt it is Canada since their violent crimes went up 35% in 20 years & homocides went up 12% in 2005. It comes from Canada's goverment website, so I am guessing it to be true. I would guess it to be Luxemburg. Samll & the wealthiest country usually means the most police & therefore the safest country.

I think anyone who hates anyone or any country for any political reason is a bad person. You, sir have lived a sheltered and limited life and I pity you. I can't hate you for what your country and lifestyle has done to you. There is probably nothing wrong with communism if it is run properly. A dictatorship is not the way to run communism. There are the self-proclaimed elite in your society as well, so don't claim perfection.

Um, there was recently a plot foiled to behead the Canadian PM. And Al Qaeda is strong in Canada, due to lax immigration policies. Keep an eye peeled in about 5 years.

Also, note Lady Blue's ignorance above.

Terrorism happens in Canada. Dealing with it was part of my job. Both in the army and civilian life, lead to some funny moments (police blowing a cabagge and a box of underwear, but also some very close calls.)

To IWISHIWAS... at least here in Canada we have free health care & the few times in our history that we have gone to war we made our presence known and have never lost a war, including the war of 1812 with the USA. Alot of people don't know about Canada's involvment because like the Australians we fought under the British.

Free health care generally means not being able to CHOOSE your provider, and if paying for health care is a problem... get a job...

running scared to Canada will not save you or the future generation, standing up and fighting for what you believe in might get you killed, and it might not... but knowing that you didn't wave that little white flag or run away with your tail between your legs should be of some comfort

As quiet as Canada is, meaning that we never hear any news, I'll bet it is the safest country. It could be b/c they mind their own business.
