According to the christian bible, it means,

to choose not to be conformed (like, fashioned after, imitators of, worldly, to be carnally minded) to this world, but to be transformed by the renewing of Your mind (with the word of god, the bible), so that You can prove to Yourself, what is the good, and acceptable, and the perfect will of God, for Your life, and as an example to others !

I am not a christian, as yourself, but I looked up those 2 verses, up on the internet for you, to help you understand what it means.

I am Buddhist, and we are taught to help others in any way we can. And renewing one's mind from any unwholesome mental factors such as impatience, anger, greed, selfishness, ill-will toward others, lustful desires, etc. and cultivating their opposites are very important to us. And as I perceive Rom. 12:1-2,
it is calling a christian to renew Their minds from unwholesome, carnally mindedness as like the world is, with word, the bible, in a very similiar way, in which Buddhists renew, and transform their minds (thought-life, emotions, words, actions, intensions, and attitudes) with the 4 Noble Truths and The Noble Eightfold Path.

In Buddhism, we practice Patience AND Tolerance toward people with all Religions, and No-Harm toward all living beings, that
is why there has never been a war in the name of Buddhism.

I have much honour and respect for genuine believing Christians. Christianity teaches excellent morals and ethics which should be followed by Humanity.
And Jesus was an excellent example for All humans to imitate in this life of ours and in our future lives to come.

I hope the christian internet information I presented you was Helpful. That was my only intension, was to help to answer your question.

Have an Calm, Peaceful, Happy 2007' Year !!

Romans 12 Consequently I entreat YOU by the compassions of God, brothers, to present YOUR bodies a sacrifice living, holy, acceptable to God, a sacred service with YOUR power of reason. 2 And quit being fashioned after this system of things, but be transformed by making YOUR mind over, that YOU may prove to yourselves the good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
notice the you and yours above only you can choose to live for God the way he wants you to or the way you want to

Yeah~King James Version of the Bible is more intense~~
~I favor this because it appeals to my emotions~~
~Anywho~This is what I think it means~~I wouldn't say this~~If I didn't truly believe it with my heart~~And there are probably others that would have a different take on this~~So, what each one of us has to decide is take all the answers we get~~Read
~The verses, ask other people whom we respect their opinion~~
~And THE MOST VALUED ANSWER WILL COME WHEN WE ASK GOD WITH A SINCERE HEART IN PRAYER~~
~It's okay to ask God more than once~We're developing our relationship with Him when we do that & at the same time gradually working a little bit further into the problem (or request)~~making more discoveries~maybe our request will be modified slightly ~~~By the time He answers~~

1. (in other words) if your body is presented to God as a living sacrifice, What are the ways that you think God would want you to take care of your body~~another verse says~our bodies are God's temple~
2. This means not to go along with all the stuff we see in the world that is sinful, but instead transform ourselves by the renewing of our mind~~There's only one place this can be done.
~~~By reading and studying God's Holy word~~The Bible!
Verse 1 just means to live your life holy unto God. "Present your bodies a living sacrifice" = work for Him any way you can. We should do these things because these are considered our "reasonable service" or our basic service to God.
Verse 2 means we should keep ourselves separate from the ways of the world and keep our minds uncluttered by thinking about His ways and studying His word. This is the "perfect will of God" in our lives.
This doesn't mean we have to live in a cave and not interact with the world. Indeed, we must strive to share what we've found with all who are willing to listen. To do that we lead active and involved lives in the community. But we cannot give our lives over to the ways of the world.
In the most general sense, don't live the way the world does, carrying on in wickedness that the culture considers acceptable.
Specifically, treat your body as if it belongs to God and not yourself; like something Holy. Poisoning it with drugs, dragging it through the muck sexually, is not honoring Christ and the price he paid for you. The mind should be similarly dedicated to rightousness and protected from the taint of the world.
Our lives as a whole should be set aside for God, and should stand out glaringly as different and special amongst unbelievers.
No matter what you do, do it as a sacrifice to God. See Colossians 3:23 to compare to verse 1.
Verse 2 calls for Christians to let God transform their minds to view the culture with a Biblical worldview. If you are "conformed to this world", you will get caught up in sin too readily.
verse 1 doesn't literally mean to present yourself as a 'sacrifice'. It means to do that which is pleasing and acceptable to God - doing His will and obeying His word, to do that which God commands us to do; doing service unto the Lord; to do those things which are pleasing to Him such as going to church to hear the reading and preaching of His word and giving Him praise, praying faithfully and without ceasing, spreading the gospel to others, etc. The phrase 'living sacrifice' means you present yourself acceptable to God, not being conformed to the wickedness of the world, but turning from the ways of the world and being renewed in body and spirit in Christ.
Verse 2 means just as it says: Abstain from doing that which is wicked and worldy such as not committing adultery or committing immoral acts against God. 'The renewing of your mind means being conformed to God's word, doing His will and doing those things that please Him and not the world. Be obedient to God - not the world. 1 John 2:15-17 explains that as well: Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 - For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. 17 - And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
Your reasonable service in the Kingdom is all God expects, & He'll equip you to fulfill those purposes. He's less interested in your money or your lip-service than He is your whole devotion to His work. The more you keep yourself clean & pure, the more use you can be in the Kingdom.
Don't allow yourself to be drawn into the world's wiles. Stay in God's Word, & allow Him to fill you with His Spirit. In doing this, you will exude His grace, mercy, & compassion, thereby bringing others to Him.
12:1 , We are bought with the precious blood of Jesus,therefore we belong to Him.Our bodies are the temple of the Holy Ghost , 1 Cor.3:16-17.
12:2 , We are to separate ourselves from the world."....know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God...." James 4:4b.Christians live in the world but they are not to be of the world.This isn't suggesting that we lock ourselves in a closet,but rather we resist the lust and sinfulness that all flesh is prone to.
