I'm doing Bible study on Genesis, so any intelligent ideas on this subject would be appreciated. I think somewhere in Eygpt myself.

Good question!

In the past the existance of these cities was questioned by 'intellectuals' and used as a 'proof' of the inaccuracy of the bible. Then some secular archeologists found both these cities - the old 'egg on the face' trick, eh?

The destruction? An earthquake causing the area to sink - pressure on substrata some of which was oil. The oil became super heated and escaped to the surface bursting into flame when it hit the air. The oil brought with it sulpher (brimstone) from below the surface and you had this burning too. The burning oil and sulpher then fell back to earth on these two cities. Fire and brimstone rained down on the cities.

Location? Check above answers ans do a search on google.

They were where the Dead Sea is now. That sea has expanded and has covered the area where they used to exist.
