"WASHINGTON - Immigrants arrested for being in the United States illegally may have been charged up to six more times, for more serious crimes, after they were released by local authorities, new Justice Department data indicate.

The Justice findings by department Inspector General Glenn A. Fine examined the criminal histories of 100 illegal immigrants arrested and then released by local and state authorities in 2004, the latest complete data available. Of the sample group of 100, according to the audit, 73 immigrants were later arrested a collective 429 times — on charges ranging from traffic tickets to weapons and drug charges.

The data suggest "the rate at which released criminal aliens are re-arrested is extremely high," the audit noted. "

I wonder what the picture here would look like if all the twice illegals were gone?

What do you think?

MB - so what, its over FOUR HUNDRED misdemeaners or whatever (we don't know) by 73 people, AFTER their first one! We do NOT need them. Don't you think people would like the rest better if these types didn't color our perceptions of what an illegal looks like?

joteropr - too many poor people ruins our schools and services because we have to pay for them. That is my basic problem with illegals. However, I am not sure if you read what I wrote. These 73 people were arrested for over 500 crimes of one level or another. That is quite a lot. Since they shouldn't even be here, why do we have to put up with this behaviour?

inzaratha, that is precisely the point, I agree.

It was an interesting article there. And a very good question. I think we would see more order--and that is needed.

The price of greatness is responsibility. Our country is forgetting what made them great-----acting responsibly.
I wonder too what we would see.

You want to know what I think.

Here it goes:
" Of the sample group of 100, according to the audit, 73 immigrants were later arrested a collective 429 times — on charges ranging from traffic tickets to weapons and drug charges."

Why were they "let go" by the autorities? That is the big problem. They get lawyers appointed by the courts, and these lawyers have to get these people off, to clear the courts dockets, and all they do is go in a revolving door, around and around. The only difference is that each time they get a break, they cannot continue to do what they were arrested for, so they go onto something else, and around and around they continue to go.

WHY CAN THE SYSTEM KEEP THEM LOCK UP, UNTILL THEY DO THEIR TIME AND THEN DEPORT THEM TO THEIR COUNTRY?

Those particular 100 individual would have been sent back home the first time, and perhaps not comit any more felonies.

I AM A FIRM BELIEVER THAT ONCE YOU COMMIT A CRIME, YOU LOSE YOUR RIGHTS AS A PERSON, AND BECOME A PRISIONER AND IF YOU ARE ILLEGAL YOU SHOULD PAY HERE YOUR TIME, AND THEN BACK TO YOUR COUNTRY IT IS.

The leniency has to stop, and perhaps the imigration of ilegals would decline

They should be locked up and they should throw away the key. It's inbelievable that our government would allow those criminals to continue time after time to be arrested. The second time should have been enough, they should have been deported then and when caught the third time they should have been imprisoned for many years.

Illegals and their supporters give Americans more reasons every day to NOT give amnesty to illegal aliens. They are putting the noose around their OWN necks. They don't need OUR help. By the way some of them answered your question, with the filthy name calling and suggestions that they were only 'misdemeanors' shows their own inablility to read what the report said and face the truth. Illegal aliens should be deported, they should NOT get amnesty, our immigration laws should be enforced STRICTLY, our borders should be guarded with armed military and closed.

They aren't giving Americans a very nice picture of how an 'immigrant' should be conducting themselves. Because they aren't 'immigrants'. They are illegal aliens, nothing more.

What do you with the arrest of the illegals? If they are put on jail, it cost us and if they are send back, it cost us. Why if these illegals haven't done nothing else, just working hard, They are not kept in here with a working visa? At lease they have to get all the same responsibilities as we do. If they are found that they have committed another crime besides the fact they are illegals, so deport them, if not let them work.

How many crimes people who born in here had committed and they are at large? Wasn't Timothy McVeigh a white American? Look what he done. Doesn't matter what a person is from, Why the bad behavior of illegals is more notorious than the in house ones? I believe is should be the same measure for every body. Perhaps, Why if they were arrested authorities let them free? Whose fault is it? We should ask them why they did release them.

Why to mention just the Mexicans? Here are illegals from many different groups. You can't stamp a certain ethnic group, perhaps you can't judge a whole nation for the mistakes made by few.

Canada has had some illegals deported as many as 9 times some for crimes which included murders (plural)

I posted the article in my question too. I cannot believe we just basically release criminals for them to come right back here and cause more serious crimes.

You know, if we enforced our immigration laws these criminals would never be here in the first place. Those who legally apply for entry must undergo medical screening and a criminal background check.

Among many other factors, isn't this where we are really failing?

I am definitely anti - illegal, however the re-arrests for all criminals are very high, especially violent ones. (whether illegal or american) They shouldn't let very many of either kind out.

The real question is: when they are arrested and found to be illegal, why aren't they deported to Mexican authorities so they can fill up Mexican jails at their expense instead of ours???

Only more reasons that they need to enforce our immigration laws!!!

You know...maybe them waiting for a solution to the illegal immigration problem isn't such a bad idea...

The longer they wait the more dumb sh*t these people do!!

Keep it up!!
