Everyone here has a concept of what or who God is. And it's that mental concept we have of God that causes people to act a certain way. I've read alot of postings here, and the concept people have of God range from He's a fairytale, to He's the Creator of the universe, and everything in between.
I've read posting that said there is no God, and when we die, that's it, so we might as well have a good time now.
Others have writen that the Almighty God is the Creator of everything, and that through Jesus Christ, we can have eternal life.
So is God a loving and merciful God that we can go to in time of need? Is He an alusive God, that doesn't hear our prayers? Is He a vengeful God that keeps us in line with fear. Or is He non-existant, so we are free to do what we want?
Do you agree that if we believe in God, or don't believe in God, we have a mental image of God and His attributes? And it's that image of God that forms our personalities, and how we conduct our lives?

You certainly don't have a "mental image" of a creature that you know doesn't exist.Do you have an image of the 'Pepsi cola fairy'?, --or the 'hot dog prince'?
Whatever image you have was placed there by well meaning but ignorant parents
, friends, and teachers ,as well as not-so-well meaning "Men of the Cloth".

Perhaps. In not believing there is a God, I am free to live my life according to my own direction instead of having it chosen for me. However, I acknowledge that I must take responsibility for my own actions at all times and consider those around me very carefully, as my "forgiveness" subscription has expired.
Why accept the black & white argument that there either is a God and a heaven & hell and everything you do in this tiny fraction of existence determines the remainder of eternity, or that there is simply nothing at all, never was, never will be, and all the tiny bits that make up who you are and who you will be simply goes *POOF!* when you die. Why can't you choose something in between, or even completely different as your life philosophy?
In other words, life isn't a multiple choice quiz where you have to pick one answer, it's an endless, open-ended essay question that isn't graded!

If you read the Bible, with understanding from the Holy Spirit, you will see God's attributes. God is all the things you say, Creator, Almighty God, Father. He has many names, which actually describes His character. He is not allusive though, He does hear our prayers, you just need to learn to listen. Jesus said that He is the way to the Father, so prayers are to God the Father , through Jesus, the Son.

i don't believe in a deity. i have "God" concepts that micro down to yet unknowable subatomic energy strings and macro out into the yet unknowable expanse of this Universe and then accordion out into infinite parallel Universes and parallel or intersecting time lines (also all as yet unknowable). whew!
so my "God" conceptualizations are only that. imaginings.
a feeble human attempt to connect dots when the dots are more numerous than the sands of the Sahara.
my behavior is based in the environment of my upbringing, on the continuing experiences of my life, on those actions that caused good or harm, initiated pleasure or pain for myself and/or others, garnered success or failure.
i am not always kind but often i am.

We know God through history. I think I am a better person from the moment I really met the love of God. I understand everybody don't mater the religion or if he believe or not. The character of a person never changes that is who we are.

Definitely. It's called having a "worldview" and it is what filters everything we hear, see and talk about. That is why everyone should truly search for answers instead of just going by what you have been told by the people around you. And I don't mean searching on Yahoo Answers!!

My belief in God very much affects my day to day life. I try to do whatever is His will, whatever that might be. It probably won't have an effect on whether or not I get the soup or the salad at a restaurant, but the bigger things.

I believe we start when we are small..Children ask a lot of questions about where did this come from why do we die, what happens when we die. I taught my children that there is a God in heaven and he loves us.

I believe they do, they slander people who write things about their god that the bible says is wrong and anyone they just find unworthy, it's a bit annoying. Say what you mean, mean what you say.
