Yes, beagles are known for being overeaters. They're smart, so they can get into any sort of food cartons and the trash lying around, and they love to eat, so they won't stop themselves when they're full. The majority of beagles I have seen at the animal shelter I volunteer have been hugely overweight. It's a very common problem.
Type in "beagle" and "overeat" in google.com, and you'll find loads of articles about portly beagles.

I've had three beagle mixes, and all of them have been fat. I've had other breeds that were not fat, so I do think it is a common beagle trait and not just because of my feeding/exercise habits. One thing I learned on helpling them lose weight was to let them run around in the dog park, rather than just walking them or hanging out in the yard.

1. All adult Beagles tend to be at least a little overweight.
2. You should never free feed a beagle. You should have scheduled feeding times.
3. A lot of exercise. I find with my beagle that if I don't have time for LONG walks I take him to doggie day care.
Good Luck!

According to my beagle's vet and trainer, beagles tend toward obesity. Their bodies are programmed for pack hunting, so their metabolism is different from other breeds that are less active. That's why beagles who are housepets tend to be chubby - they usually don't get the exercise that their bodies need.
Mine's on the hefty side too, and despite my best efforts at walking her regularly, it's hard getting her to drop the weight. If you don't already have her on a weight control formula dog food, you might want to consider it. When I switched my dog onto one, she lost about 5 lbs. If your dog is really overweight, talk to your vet about a prescription weight loss formula. It's expensive, but better than dealing with the health problems (like arthritis) that may develop if your pup continues carrying around too much weight.

No.
The beagle is a splendid example of the hound group of dog breeds. They should be some of the leanest dogs you see.
Check the fat content on your dog food. It may be on the high side. I'd also cut table scraps and go on runs with the pup or create some fun games for you guys to play.
