I have two cats, the youngest is two. After a hard night of sleeping, cats need a good nap. Then they will go eat. That tires them out so they need another nap. It's normal for cats to sleep a lot. Don't get alarmed. Just give him a lot of love. It wouldn't be a bad idea to get a male kitten for him to play with when you're gone. My two year old was brought into our house as a kitten. I already had a two and a half year old. They got along famously from the very beginning. If you do get a kitten, it might take a while for them to get along. Just be patient.

Your cat is too young to nap all the time, time to see the vet. Cats are active creatures. Your cat is way too young to call it quits. I would take it to the vets. I would try and play with the cat and see if its interested. If not, the sweet thing could be sick. Try a string or anything that would stimulate the cat. Your cat is too young to sleep all the time., if you are trying to play with it and all it does is sleep. I would suggest also, research cats. If a cat is not stimulated by play, especially yours at an early age, get it to a vet. For the record, when they meow, it does not always mean they are hungry, they may want to play. So, do your research on cats and behavior online. Yours, is to young to be sleeping all the time, unless its bored as heck. If thats the case, then they find their own entertainment. Go get it checked out if its not normal behavior. Hugs to kitty and you.

I adopted a cat who is about 2 1/2 yrs old. She sleeps majority of the day, and has small bouts of playing. At night, she's very active, and she plays with her toys. Then she gets on the bed with me and sleeps.

What you consider sleeping too much, is what is actually quite normal in adult cats.

It is normal for cats to sleep most of the day because they are nocturnal animals. I have had a cat for the last 12 years, so I can say from a high degree of experience.

cats are naturally nocturnal so sleeping all day is normal. Actually sleeping is normal for cats, they do a lot of it, especially as they get older. Sleeping up to 20 hours a day is not uncommon

nice life if you can get it! :)

your cat is young and would be active at night for sure.

Honey, thats what cats do. I have a cat and she sleeps 22 hours out of the day. She sleeps in the weird places. Cats seem to be lazy by nature. I love her tho.

Maybe his old owner was a night owl and so he could just be used to those hours. When he gets adjusted and comfortable he'll start to be awake in the hours your awake. It's normal for them to sleep A LOT though! I wouldn't worry about it unless the cat never seems to adjust a little more to your schedule after a couple of weeks.

Also, if he came from a household with more than one pet, he could just be lonely.

Cats are nocturnal creatures and in the wild they see in the dark better to hunt. It is perfectly normal for a cat to sleep a lot in the daytime.
Do you play with the catwith toys, because that could stimulate him to be awake more often when you are present?
If you are concerned about his sleeping habits then you should ask the vet whenever you take him in for his next shots.
