If he knows what it is, he may be on it himself. You may just be oversensitive about it, and he didn't notice it at all. Let sleeping dogs lie.

Well what is the real question here, is it that you did not want anyone to know that you are taking it for depression, or is it that you are thinking of taking the whole bottle, or do you think your friend wants to take the bottle. Well it should be keapt put away from sight in the first place if you do not want people to know that you are takeing it. There is nothing wrong with getting help and taking a medication that may be helping you, but that is up to you, how you feel about someone you know seeing your bottle of Effexor on the counter. Just tell them you don't want anyone else to know. Now if you are thinking of taking the whole thing for a bad reason, then i think it is good that your friend saw the bottle on the counter, cause they can talk to you and get you help if you need it. Now if your friend wants to take it, well just take it from him or her, and put it up in a safe place where no one can get it, and get your friend help.

So what?

You shouldn't be ashamed of taking Effexor and your friend shouldn't judge you because you take Effexor. Lots of people need a little help from time to time. Nothing to be ashamed of.

What you should do is not be ashamed of your depression. It's an illness, not something you chose or can control. And if your friend is truly a friend, they'll support you and understand why you need medication

absolutely nothing. there is nothing wrong with needing it. honesty is the best tool if he/she asks about it. hiding it will be a self admission of shame. i have alsways thought of it as the equivalent of insulin. depression is a medical illness....imbalanced brain chemicals. it is to the brain what diabetes is to the body. therefore it is the insulin for your brain. mental illness kills more peopl in this world than anytoher other illness. the fact that you are self aware enogh to help yourself is nothing to be aashame of. more often than not, you will help a friend by just talking about it.

just tell him/her that its for anxiety, or being too wound up. i saw my future husbands EMPTY bottle of prozac, the first time i was here, i almost freaked when i found out what it was.but we've been married four years and he had no objections to my q. about it,, and just explained that he was high strung and had depression from earlier life experiences.(2ex-wifes,mother passed, drugs, etc. etc.) and last of all you have to ask yourself if this friend is worth explaining it too.

Just ignore that he/she saw it. If he/she asks about it and you don't feel like being truthful, tell her that your doctor gave it to you to help you sleep better at night. Or be truthful..if she really is your friend, then he/she will understand and be supportive

Keep your medications in a less visible place, if you are uncomfortable with questions...and remember that you have no reason to be ashamed - and no responsibility to explain yourself to other people! Good luck!
