My husband and I found out that we are expecting a girl and we can't seem to agree on a 1ST name. The middle name will be Dorothy after my grandmother. For a first name, we both like Ella, but I am wondering if it is getting too popular. I really like Eveline, but my husband is not so sure. I would really appreciate any input/suggestions. Thanks!

Does anyone know if there are that many Ellas floating around out there?

Ella ranked #22 in 2005 according to the BabyNameVoyager. I personally, haven't heard of any little girls named Ella, though. It's a pretty name. I think Eveline Dorothy flows better than Ella Dorothy. Maybe you could use Ella as a nick name.

I'll give you a few suggestions..

I like Eveline a lot, that's one of my friends names, but i like it more when it is spelt Evelyn. With that name there are more nicknames that come with it than there are for Ella. I personally am not too fond of that name, but different people, different preferences.

Elizabeth Dorothy is also another good one I would consider if I were you. I don't know if you like that name or not, but I enjoy it. Much like the previous name there are multiple nicknames that come along witht his one as well.

I love the name Ella, and I haven't heard of any around my area. I have seen a few on tv. Along those same lines, I would think Dorothy Belle would sound nice. But I like those old fashioned names. Believe me, you don't hear Belle too much.

Well I don't know if there are many Ellas running around, but I do know of some cool names. My lil girls name is Annaliese Berlin. I loved that named since the moment I seen it on line, lol. I also liked the names Aniston, which wouldn't go well with Dorothy, and Riley is one of my favorites!! Well good luck

I work in a call centre with allot of young mothers, and I put this question to them about a month ago (as my close friend too was going to call her that). They were mostly saying that they knew an Ella, Ellie, Ellen and that yes, it is popular trendy name. I asked them to take a note of any unique girl names that jumped at them, write them down and give to me by the time i finished. By the end of the day, the response was amazing.

I highly recommend asking around for unique names as this was a great way for my friends.

PS. They ended up calling their daughter Skye :)

I know a few people who've named their babies Ella. I like it, though. We wanted to name our baby after my husband's grandmother, Evelyn. We ended up with Eva Lain. So, I really like Eveline. It's unique.

Well, since Dorothy will be the middle name (and it is 3 syllables)... that's a TOUGH ONE!

Eliana Dorothy
Mariana Dorothy
Adriana Dorothy
Eliora Dorothy
Isabella Dorothy

Good luck! BTW, my kids names are:

Cassidy
Casey
Emily
Chase
Skyler

I think Ella is beautiful. I don't know that many Ellas right now. But even if it is popular, if it is what you want to name your child, go for it!
