When she started asking to be put on the toilet I put her up there. It took quite a while because the only reason she wanted to sit on the toilet was because she had seen me sit on it. She had no idea what was suppose to happen on it. When they start asking to sit on it you put them on. It doesn't mean they are ready to be potty trained, it means they are curious and want to emulate the grown ups. If you try to "force" them to get potty trained before they are ready you only make it more traumatic for both yourself and the child. And keep in mind, a child is NOT fully potty trained until there are no more wet beds at night and it is stil a good idea to continue diapers at night even though the days are dry.

We just successfully potty trained a little girl and a little boy both about 2 1/2 years old. Grandchildren, the boy we are raising and the girl we just have during the day while her parents work. Anyway, we used M&M's and candy corn. 1 if the go pee-pee in the potty and 2 if they go stinky in the potty. Find a small treat that your kid likes and use it. It works.
Also, we found that if we put them in cloth underwear and not in the pull-ups, we had a more successful day without as many accidents. As soon as their clothes got damp they would run to the bathroom yelling they had to go. But then again, I have wood floors and leather furniture so if they didn't make it, it was easy to clean up.

Try to be patient, it takes time, especially if you have a little boy. But, some things that I did were, I got some books for kids about potty trainning, they have some really good ones out there you can even get some movies, like bear in the big blue house, elmo's world, ect.. Another thing I did was I made a race track, I drew a track, and then got some car stickers, and every time he went pee on the toilet, I would put a car on his track, if he went poo, he'd get an extra sticker, and he could put the sticker on the track, then once he got to the "finish line" he went to the dollar store and picked out a great big treat. Another thing you could try is rewarding him, I'm not a big fan of rewarding with food, but you could go to the dollar store and get some little things there like stickers, ect. Make sure you make him/her feel really proud of himself when he goes, but don't over do it either, sometimes they feel embarassed when you over do it.. Good Luck with your potty trainning! some more tips, for a boy, you could try putting some cherios in the toilet for him to aim at if your teaching him to stand up. Also if you have a little boy, he might want to model from you, so if you want him to pee sitting down to start, you might want to do it too.. Good luck and have fun! make a game out of it...

The best advice I ever got was to encourage but never push too much. Your child will begin when they are ready. A nice incentive for the child is always great though! Tell them they get some sweet undies/panties for going potty on a daily basis for a few days. If it's a boy put some cheerios in the toilet and tell him to hit the cheerios with his stream, lol Hope this helps....

My son wasn't potty trained until after he turned 3. We tried and tried everything. Our peditrcian told us to put away the potty. Don't even mention it for 2 weeks. Then, pick a weekend and explain that there would be no more diapers. We actually let it go for 4 weeks. One weekend we told him they didn't have diapers in his size. That was it. He had a couple of accidents the first weekend but, by the end of the week, he wasn't even wearing diapers at night. I was impressed.

Wait until she shows an interest. Stay home all weekend and let her go bare bottomed. Play with her, makes sure she gets LOTS of attention and has fun. Say lets try the potty or Do you want to go potty every 20 minutes ALL DAY LONG, until bedtime.
She will associate potty with fun, and viola! Potty trained.

For my daughter we bought the "Potty-Time Baby doll" as seen on Dr.Phil, it didn't work so well but I think she was just too young at the time (I've heard from others that it works really well). Eventually, we just put panties on her and told her diapers were for babies...and every so often throughout the day we would put her on the potty, she caught on in 1 day! And for night time, we put a diaper on the first night but one day 2 we put her to bed with panties, she might have had 3 accidents during the night but caught on quick.
We did a similar method with my son.

You wait until the child wants to train and they do. No tricks, no rewards, no stress. I did this and they both trained just before 3. I never did the "do you need to go the toilet" every 10 min. This is ridiculous. If a child is not ready to tell you when they need to go to the toilet they are not ready. Why stress yourself and more importantly the child

Treats were a great motivator with my little boy. We put a treat shelf in the bathroom and he got to pick a treat just for trying. So naturally, he tried a lot and got the hang of it. I didn't use candy because it just got him all wound up. We ended up using treats from the dollar store like plastic dinosaurs.
