I think it may have something to do with being asleep, since your not awake your not lubricating your throat via swallowing as much as you would if you where awake, you would be aware of having a dry throat and swallow..that's my take on it be it logic or science.

Well I don't know much science,
but...
if you sleep with your mouth open and a fan is pointed right at your face, the air goes into your mouth and into your throat. The air pretty much dries your mouth a little. So if you wake up with a sore throat when a fan has been pointing at you while you slept, it's probably because your throat got/is dry.

because the fan is drying out the back of your throat. as you sleep your mouth continues to produce siliva but if you have a fan pointed at your face the breeze from the fan dries out your saliva and there you go a dry (sore) throat!

the air from the fan dries out your throat. Try sleeping with it on, but pointed away from you. That way, you still have air circulating, but not right on you!

the science is that the air constantly blowing in your face dries out your throat, thus making it sore.

there's no science. it just dries out and irritates youur throat. drinking water and a cough drop should usually do the trick to ease the soreness.

The fan is drying out the moisture in the mucous membranes. Try using a humidifier.

Because the air gets into you'r face, and that;s what you breathe.
If you're hot you need to put an air condition on your bedrrom or put the fan somewhere else, but not directly into your face.
