Please don't declaw your cat. As others have stated, the operation including taking off each first knuckle. You are taking away your cat's first line of defense. A declawed cat has a higher chance of not using the litter box and biting. Since they have no claws, they must resort to biting, which is much more dangerous since a cat's mouth is full of bacteria.

Declaws are expensive and healing time is painful for the cat. I refuse to have my two declawed. Instead of declawing, train your cat to use a scratching post, clip the claws every so often or use Soft Paws. I've heard great reviews on this product.

so many cats suffer ill effects from declawing. Many are turned over to shelters because the cats will not use the litter box because the pain from declawing. Any shelter can tell you this is one of the other leading reasons why cats are turned into them not only because of overpopulation issues, but because of cats who don't use the litter box to pee.

This article explains why so many declawed cats end up avoiding the litter box http://network.bestfriends.org/Blogs/PostDetail.aspx?bp=317

Please also read http://www.declawing.com/htmls/declawing.htm which explains what a cat experiences when being declawed and how it can affect you as the owner later after surgery for years.

Try trimming your cats nails and using SoftPaws cap covers which is a friendlier alternative.

Declawing is actual illegal in several countries BECAUSE IT IS SUCH A CRUEL PRACTICE! Check this web site for detailed information. How about cutting off your toes and still try to walk and balance? My son adopted a declawed cat years ago and at 13, bone shards still work their way through the end of his paw causing him intense pain.
Please RETHINK this barbaric idea! Nail trimming, soft paws, many other options available! I have leather furniture and do NOT declaw, nor do I have a problem.

Hello, why on earth would you want to torture your poor cat? Declawing means removing every first knuckle on each little finger. That is horrible torture! Could you imagine having all of you fingertips removed?

Well...if you're still interested it costs about $200-300 and good luck finding a vet to do it. Most where I live have completely stopped doing this as well as tendonectomy(where they remove the tendons on each paw so claws can't retract) A better choice would be cutting nails and/or using a scratcher and/or using Soft Paws (rubber caps that are glued onto each claw) Please please please be nice to your kitty. Call a vet in your idea and ask them what is their opinionn on this matter, you'll be surprised.

The age limit is about 6 months old.

Your local shelter already has many animals that have gone through declawing and they still ended up on "death row". Please consider adopting one of these cats that have already had the operation if you want a declawed pet.

Please don't do this to your cat try nail caps for cat's or if you value your furniture over your pet find him or her the loving home that you are not willing to provide declawing is such an archaic practise.

You obviously dont need to own a cat. Why get an animal and then torture it? Let the poor cat go to a home who can love it for what it is........a cat. Get a dog instead (maybe a pit bull?)

you don;t declaw cats ;that is inhuman and causes more problems with it done than not getting it done,,,, cats get all kinds of infections from that crazy operation..that would be like someone tearing out your fingernails; one by one...and how can kitty ever protect himself..... bad choice even vets will tell you that;unless they just want money and don;t care about the poor animals,,,,,,,,.......,,,,,,,,.........
