By funky do you mean not so traditional and different for your location or decorations? If you want it different all together there are plenty of venues you could hold it at, though I am not sure where you live or are planning on holding the event.
Is there a particular type of theme you would like to go with? If noot you could go with a rustic theme and have it at a ranch or barn somewhere. I know a barn seems like an odd place, but it could be great! I have seen and helped organize many. Instead of chairs for the ceremony, you could order and use hay bales for the chairs. It's cute, may sound odd, but cute! A way to funk it up some would be to use bright funky colors, like lime green and fuschia. or fuschia and black or other types of trendy "in" colors right now! If you like this one, email me and I could give you more ideas for decorating etc.
Another idea would be if you have a winery or place like that in your area.
Do you have any historical homes in your area? They make great venues, but beware, they often have a long list of rules for having it there.
Do you live near a beach or the ocean? If so have it outdoors on the beach.
If you live in or around mountains, again you could go with a rustic themed wedding at a lodge or something. Funk it up with your color choices.
Do you live in a really warm climate with no winter (ie-no snow)? If so, you could have a winter wedding. And by this I mean, go all out winter, drop the ac as low as you can go and still be comfortable, but yet a little chilly. Decorate with a winter theme. At the reception, in the room/or at the front door and in the yard that guests will enter through, during the entrance have snow machines and go all out, again have the ac set really low inside! Have trees with snow on them, have fake snow mixed with silver glitter for your "Flower girls" to throw and to sprinkle throughout the reception. Have ice sculptures. Go all out with the winter theme. Let guests enjoy a "white" wedding!
And for the alternate, if you live in a harsh winter climate, have a summer themed wedding in the middle of winter. Tell guests to dress for a tropical wedding and have the venue really warm and decorated like a Hawaiian Luau! It will give guests a nice break and let them forget about the dreary temp outside.
Have your wedding in a park.
Do you live in an area that is big on a certain sport or team, like where I'm from everyone lives and breathes LSU-the state university! I have been to weddings with the wedding at the stadium and the reception at the faculty club, and everything was done in purple and gold-the team colors!
The ideas are endless, be creative and drive around your area. Anywhere you see could probably accomodate a wedding!

Not sure if this will help. But I thought it was very interesting.
I guess it would be an "old wives tale"
"Married when the year is new, he'll be loving, kind & true,
When February birds do mate, You wed nor dread your fate.
If you wed when March winds blow, joy and sorrow both you'll know.
Marry in April when you can, Joy for Maiden & for Man.
Marry in the month of May, and you'll surely rue the day.
Marry when June roses grow, over land and sea you'll go.
Those who in July do wed, must labor for their daily bread. Whoever wed in August be, many a change is sure to see
Marry in September's shrine, your living will be rich and fine.
If in October you do marry, love will come but riches tarry.
If you wed in bleak November, only joys will come, remember.
When December snows fall fast, marry and true love will last."

In the last year and a half, I've been to or been in weddings that held their receptions at Bed and Breakfasts, hotels, military officers' clubs and historic homes.
When I was planning my wedding, we looked into hotels and B&Bs. We ended up going with a hotel because the B&Bs seemed to "nickel and dime" us to death. B&Bs also have pretty strong vibes so it might be hard to find one that matches your ideas well enough.
My friend held her wedding and reception at a historic home on park land and it was beautiful.
I started my search by looking up all the B&Bs in the area where I was getting married, looking for wedding info on their websites, and making in-person appointments with them. I did the same for the hotel I went with.
Good luck! No matter where you hold your reception, it will be a special day for you.

I don't know where you're from, but if you are from anywhere near Idaho or Utah, check out the Annivesary Inns. They have amazing themed rooms that are just spectacular. We toured one once, and, albeit expensive, they are the PERFECT "funky" wedding idea. The rooms are worth a look--even if you don't consider going to one. Check 'em out at www.anniversaryinn.com/
As for your reception... funky ideas... hmm... a bowling alley? Any alley in general? A fun house? A fair?
I don't know... :P
