I would like to purchase a tactical model if it is available to me, but is it legal to purchase and own if i have only a FOID?
Is there anything special i need to do to own one??

i can't imagine why you wouldn't be able to - although given our crappy gun laws, i understand the concern

as long as it's not full auto, it shouldn't be a problem; i don't own an m&p15 myself, but i do own an ak47 and a mini14, both legal

i'd plan on picking it up quick, though - blag the impaler just said in the chicago tribune the other day that he's planning on pushing an assault weapons ban in his second term.

No real restrictions other than the 24 hour wait etc. In fact, that may have dropped off, I don't know.

Illinois is crap for handguns but they don't restrict long guns for much of anything.

you need a federal approved picture ID from your state that say you are a resident of that state, and in Illinois you need to have time, because you have waiting periods. Plus the $1,200 to $1,700 for the gun.

think so if you can prove it was legal for to own from where you moved from but if you bought it from illinois probably legal
