Older pennies are corrosive, meaning they can eat away at the lining of your child's esophogus, intestines, or anything else. He could go for days seeming fine, and then spike a high fever and start vomiting. You should take him to the ER.

my son swallowed a penny some months in the past, and definitely I panicked. I did some on line learn and keen to carry him to the ER to get an Xray taken...the medical doctors suggested me that I truly did the right ingredient. regrettably out of each of the small change to swallow, pennies are the worst....any penny made after 1982 is largerly made from zinc with in consumer-friendly words a skinny copper coating. If this penny were to get stuck contained in the esophagus (there might want to often be indicators like coughing, difficulty respiration) or contained in the tummy hollow area (received't have indicators), the copper might want to erode, leaving the zinc to enter the blood move, that could want to reason damage to the liver...or the corrosion might want to leave the tummy hollow area very aggitated. A penny very infrequently honestly does get stuck, in spite of the undeniable fact that it truly is worth getting an Xray carried out, for piece of options. If the penny isn't stuck everywhere, it would want to soak as a lot as 40 8 hours to bypass...if it doesn't go by way of the third day, we were suggested to seek stick with up care. Our son handed his 40 8 hrs later. the different coin, i might want to assert wait it out (till there have been indicators that confirmed topics)..yet because it turned right into a penny after all, i might want to truly advise you taking her to the healthcare professional's.

My oldest son did this twice. I remember the first time, he was so alarmed but didn't tell me all day, then came to me at bedtime and said, "Can i die from eating a penny?"
What we learned is that pennies from certain years can hurt the gut and pennies from other years can't hurt the gut. So, you must get the penny when it passes, check the date, and follow up as indicated .

My son did not swallow a penny but he did swallow Christmas tensil a few years ago. That was disgusting when it passed. You should probably call your doctor and ask him. He may have passed it and you just did not see it. If he gets real irratable I would consider taking him to the doctor.

Talk to the pediatrition about this. He will probably suggest still looking for it and if it hasn't passed by a certain amt of days, don't know how many, they may do an ex ray to see where it is and go from there to see if it is blocking something somewhere which is not good

i have known for this to happen i work in a daycare and it has happened to many kids, usually the parent would take them to the doctor and the doctor told them that they will pass it which they did. but since your son didn't pass it i would take him to the doctor because i don't know if something in the metal could be toxic or not it may make him sick so make an appointment as soon as possible good luck!

This apparently is the most common reason for toddlers coming in to the ER! There is nothing you can do except wait, it's highly unlikly that it will cause any problems, infact it may have already passed, you just didn't notice it!
