It could be something as simple as learning to purr or more serious like feline leukemia. Since you just took her in, it's best to take her into a vet to have her checked out and get her shots. Being a stray, she could have worms or some minor to serious infection from being a stray.

I think it's great that you took in a stray and I hope she becomes a healthy, happy lifelong companion for you!!

If you just took a stray kitty into your home you definitely need to take her to the vet to make sure she's healthy and get her her shots, etc. Then the vet can tell you if there is cause to be concerned about her breathing also.

Yes, you should take her to a vet, cats can catch upper respiratory infections very easily, and the vet can give you something to help, and also start getting her her shots so that she can be a healthy part of your family for a long time.

I work in a Vets office...

You need to take her in ASAP esp if you have other pets in the house. Anytime you take in a stray you risk so many infections. Feline Leukemia is one of them which could effect your cat's ability to breath. Also there is an illness which we call Cat herpes which presents as upper resp infection and some sores. (Sores do not have to be present for the resp infection). Not to mention any other number of illnesses that she could have gotten out in the world.

Take her to the vet. Yesterday.

Good luck

She probably just has a common kitty cold, just call your local vet and ask what they suggest you do. Pretty simple, they usually just inject a small amount of antibiotic and they're good to go. Tell them that she was a stray and they may give you a discount.

Yes I think you should ask your vet, cats sometimes get upper respiratory sicknesses and it is contagious to other cats. It requires antibiotics.
