There is no problem with buying and wearing bulletproof vests, you might get checked from time to time, and ex felons cannot possess (legally) bullerproof vests.

Living in California, it should be a requirement! No, you can not get in trouble for wearing a bulletproof vest. There's no law against it.

mikeysco is, as usual, correct. And as far as I know, there is no law in California prohibiting felons from possessing or wearing bulletproof vests either. That might be a common condition of parole, but if so I am unaware of it.

There is no law restricting the use of a bulletproof vest. However they are infringing on there forth amendment rights.

I don't know about California, but most states it is only illegal to wear a vest while in the commission of a crime. Other than that you are good to go.
