First of all...if your gums bleed that does not necesarily mean that you hurt them, just that they are unhealthy.

When you floss you should not snap the floss in between the teeth, you should gently move it back and forth. When you are in the space you should curve the floss around the side of the tooth and move the floss up and down.

If you snap the floss or move it back and forth in the gum tissue it can cause damage. Repeatedly causing floss cuts can make the tissue heal in a way that it traps more plaque and debris.

Yes, you could. If you floos to hard, you could cut the gums. However, if your gums are healthy, that's not too likely. Most bleeding during flossing is due to unhealthy gums and is a sign that you should continue to floss regularly.

If you floss hard, you can make your gums bleed. I have had this happen to me before.

Yes, it is possible. But as long as flossing doesn't hurt your gums then you're not damaging your gingiva.
