If you have plaster walls or 1/2"-5/8" drywall, that should be adequate shielding for any modern OPG machine. Lead is not necessary. The button is on a tether that will allow you to move about 6-8 feet from the machine and this is generally a safe distance for the operator, even without shielding. If you buy one, there will be quite a bit of information regarding radiation safety in the owner's manual and the installer/supplier would be able to answer all questions that are specific to the machines you are considering.
