Maybe there are classes...but I love to hear peoples' accents.
And congratulations on learning Eng. It is my understanding that this is one of the most difficult lang's to learn (especially when not the first lang). :-)

First of all, I give you credit for living in this country and learning the language that it speaks, accent or not. I would never dream of moving to a country and not learning the language. Secondly, I like listening to someone speak English (or more appropriately American) with an accent, so don't worry about it.

Congratulations, I'd say don't worry about it. Some people will look down on you because of your accent, but most people won't. You can't do anything about the people who do, so try not to be self-conscious about it. There are accent-reduction classes, but usually only people with really heavy accents take them.
I have worked hard to eliminate my American accent when speaking my second language (Spanish). It has basically just consisted of listening carefully to how people talk and attempting to duplicate how they say it. It is a lot of work, and I expect that you've done this already. But it pays off - I have been mistaken for a native Spanish speaker (or at least from a Spanish-speaking country) many times.
So, I'd say don't worry about it, if people look down on you, forget about them. Or better yet, be nice to them - you may just change their opinions of people with accents!

Most people who learn a new language will always speak that language with an accent, regardless of how proficient they are. There are classes that can help you to work on your accent, but I think that a better goal is to make yourself more understandable. A really good self-study course for this is called "Pronunciation for Success" -- it's for sale at www.eslvideos.com. This course is designed to be completed in about a month and it covers all aspects of English pronunciation. You can also investigate ESL programs at universities and colleges in your area to see if they offer ESL pronunciation classes.

It depends on which accent!!! Just kidding..I have an accent as well and I am so proud of it. You can do so many things with your accent:When i lived in the US, I got pulled over so many time so soon as the cops starts talking to me and notice my accent they start having conversations with me? they say things like : You have a cute accent, where r u from ....so i never got a ticket in the state.
when in you speak an accent it means that you speak more than one language and that makes you so smart because not everyone does. so be proud of your accent and don't loose it, that what makes you so unique.

I think it's great that you learned another language! Why would you be self conscious about an accent? You could always watch TV and repeat what the people are saying. Concentrate on how they say the words, see how they form the words with their lips.

I'm a native of Kansas City. I'm living in California and I talk differently from my friend. You shouldn't want to act like a native. Example, I speak Spanish with American accent.

You can never fully "lose" your accent as an adult. Everyone has an accent when speaking a foreign language and most natives can detect when you're trying to hide it and act like a native.
Just be natural and speak like you normally do.

well, which is your first language???
i actually think an accent is pretty cute!!!
i'm an ESL teacher in brazil, and portuguese is my second language...
in the beginning it's tough but you'll learn fast as u go on!!!
sometimes i make some really stupid mistakes in portuguese and me and my friends laugh about it, after a while it doesn't bother you anymore, and you make less and less mistakes...
plus everyone tells me how cutemy accent is!!!
hang in there!
