Well, most of them think they are above the law, so they probably think they are above their vows too.

Wow, so the rest of the population doesn't cheat on their SPOUSES at all. Men are not the only ones who cheat. I am sure the %age of cheating officers falls failry close to the rest of society.
Why do you not see officers in clubs, or hanging out with the general public, they are always cops, and most people have poor opinions of the police.
Why? The only time John Q. Public has any interaction with a police officer is a couple minutes after they get caught doing something wrong. Therefore, they will not think positively of police officers.
If you do not like police officers at all, the next time someone breaks into your home, threatens your life, won't turn their music down, or anything else that bothers you, don't call us. Deal with it yourself, it will lighten our load a little.

Anybody can cheat on anyone - be it police, teachers, the grocery clerk. It isn't always the police. Is the risk higher? Possibly. Law Enforcement, Corrections, and other protective services traditionally have a higher divorce and suicide rate. There are a number of factors that contribute to this, but the divorce rate isn't always due to the fault of the officer.
Relationships are difficult, and having 2 people who have certain items 'restricted' from conversation can increase that difficulty. For example: Pretend you are a police officer - you just got home. All day today you've dealt with idiots yelling at you, calling you a pig, bugging you on your lunch break, and just a few hours ago you witnessed you responded to a call of a 6 month old that was beat to death because he cried when daddy was trying to watch tv. Upsetting, right?
Now you get home, your husband/wife asks about your day. What do you tell them? You can't really tell them about the death of the infant - confidential. You can share the comments people make, but it doesn't really take to long to rehash a day of name calling. Now your spouse starts telling you about their day, and despite your best intentions of listening, what do you think your mind drifts to? Hm, maybe that 6 month old body and the scumbag that did it.
So, without meaning to, you tune out your spouse, or only partially listen. The next day, who do you speak to? Someone else on the force, someone who understands, someone you can share the details with....

First of all it is a stereotype and just about any man, firefighter, attorney, business man etc could be accused of this. It does tend to be a bit higher in police officers just as the rate of divorce and suicide are higher among police officers than the normal population. The cheating factor and the divorce rate can go hand in hand. It has little or nothing to do with the power thing or lack of character, it has everything to do with the stress the job puts on the marriage. The husband (or wife) does the job, begins to keep it to themselves (as it is a heavy burden to share with a loved one) then they begin to drift apart. Once the drift occurs, another female (many times a co worker) comes into the picture, sympathizes with the police office and that bond begins to form. Long story short, an affair or even a divorce follows.

They think they are smarter than the average bear and won't get caught. They need more ego-stroking from other women. It is rampant in every department that I have ever seen. The guys will cheat even if the wife is a cop on the force with them! Talk about loyalty??!!

It may be jumping to conclusions that cops cheat on their wives at least if some cheat not everyone of them do. People from all works of life cheat, a man is a man and a profession is a profession. If he's one thats not gonna cheat, the job has nothing to do with that. Good Luck.

I've head it too but I'm guessing it isn't the norm. I'm sure there are tons of cops out there who don't cheat on their spouses.

I think it's a "status symbol" thing in the world of cops; and being called as "macho" or virile cop or the "total man".

police officials cheat on their different halves a similar reason your spouse cheated on you - they don't look to be chuffed of their marriage. inspite of the indisputable fact that the question you should be asking is "why did my spouse cheat on me?"
