Assuming you made your own sauce, lets say an hour after starting to cook. Do you make your meatballs and put them straight into the sauce, or do you fry them first and then put them in?

Sauce:
6 cans "Six in One" crushed tomatos.
1 bunch fresh basil
1 good size head of garlic
2 medium yellow onions, maybe 3 if they are on the smaller side.
1 pound ground pork (buy fresh sausages and take them out of the casings)
Oregano
salt
pepper
olive oil

Brown pork, throw in some olive oil and sautee onions, add the garlic, sautee for about 1-2 minutes. Add tomatos.Stir.Add basil, oregano, salt, pepper. Stir. Cook one hour on low heat. Add the meatballs. Cook for two hours ....are the meatballs fried first?

Sheesh. You want the meatball recipe too???
3 - 4 pounds lean ground beef.
Dried garlic chips (in the spice aisle)
Fresh Parsley
Egg
Italian Bread crumbs
Put this together to taste. I like it with a good amount of garlic chips and parsley. Don't go overboard on the breadcrumbs.

Mama mia! You want to make a boccie ball - then brown it, fry it, bake it!! It'll last forever - even in your stomach. You want to make it tender like a baby's butt, gently drop them in the sauce. Keep the sauce on low eat - no more than a simmer. Don't argue with a Sicilian, even if my family left a long time ago.

What meatballs?
You brown the pork but there is no mention of making meatballs.
Is part of the recipe missing?
(I always cook the meatballs before I put them in the sauce - normally I cook them on a rack in the oven - a bit more healthy than frying)

Brown the meatballs first in a hot skillet (kind of like browning a pot roast), then bake them at 350F for 20 min or so, depending on the size, to finish. Drain well, then put them into the sauce and simmer. Lovely.

i always bake my meatballs before putting them in the sauce. i think if you throw them in without cooking them at least some of the way they may fall apart when you are stirring them. you could fry them too. i just made a gravy and meatballs and sausage yesterday, baked the meatballs at 350 for about 30 mins then threw them in the gravy for about 5 hours. came out great. had meatball sandwichs for dinner tonight

preparation of the meatballs and the sauce are done separately so which comes first should not matter as they come together in the end. i will prepare the meatballs first so whatever may stick with the pan or casserole used may mix with the sauce to be cooked, then once everything are to be combined then voila, you have less to worry about cleaning

The meat should always be cooked before sauce is added.

i bake them first,as you would a meatloaf. its easier. i like to keep them seperate due to some very picky eaters. don't put them in the sauce raw. they won't cook right and the sauce will get to greasy.
